after much procrastinating I actually did a sort of lore drop for Awbonee in bsky/twitter, so putting it (under the cut) here too
1. Awbonee Mossmantle, she/her half-elf ranger, in her early 30s when tadpoled. Neutral good by nature, tried hard to be lawful good in her adolescence/early adulthood, tried even harder to become neutral-neutral later on. Mum's family are upper city elves, dad is a Gur who settled down in Rivington
2. she was part of a small group of bounty hunters stalking a troll in the south wood and had separated from the group to look for food
3. she was aware Astarion was manipulating her because why else would a guy like that be interested in her, felt reeeal disappointed in herself when she started caring but was OK with enjoying it while it lasted. she stayed convinced he was going to leave any minute now for a long while after act 2
4. BFFs with wyll and karlach, they are a similar age and share similar cultural backgrounds. friends with Shadowheart and Lae'zel, idolises Halsin and Jaheira, doesn't get on with Minthara, friendly acquaintance with the rest
5. her elven grandmother dies right before the netherbrain battle. Awbonee's mother was disowned before she was born to all practical effects (name, inheritance, etc) but they did have a relationship, even if a bit strained/odd, so she takes it pretty hard (goes more nonverbal)
6. she goes to the underdark with Astarion so he can help the other spawn settle and establish a colony in an abandoned keep. she spends quite a lot of time looking for the way to get Karlach and Wyll out of Avernus because OBVIOUSLY
7. her parents and grandmother all live in the gate but they are used to her disappearing for months at a time, so they are not really waiting for her. her ex best friend Anaia however is W A I T I N G (has been for a while. it's complicated)
8. she is very agile and quite fast in melee, and with a crossbow/longbow. she is not particularly good at magic, and only has access to a couple of basic spells, mostly survival-related, and some rituals she learned as a child
9. she had been kicked out of her Gur grandmother's group of monster hunters when she was younger and she tried hard not to care but actually cared a whole lot, so getting back in the Gur's good graces was surprisingly nice
10. she is very frugal and has lived under the poverty line for chunks of her adult life so she will wear whatever is available, usually focused on freedom of movement. she likes drow armour. she runs hot so she sleeps in light shirts/vests
11. rosymorn. lots of places to climb, chill place, nice wine, even found some candied chestnuts to go with it in the wine cellar, a+++ would visit again
12.
13. Selûne by upbringing, but she prays to Mielikki
14. she travelled and struggled around taking odd jobs as monster hunter, either solo or with temporary crews
15. had a brief "sign me the fuck up" temporary moment of madness when nine-finger's lady court was talking about what nicknames they'd give her. she becomes close with chessa in the underdark, and with hope when they go back to avernus to get Karlach and Wyll back
16. nope, just a rando
17. her parents have an inn in Rivington and were busy trying to keep it afloat, so she spent a lot of time at her grandparents' in the upper city, or travelling with her grandmother and learning to hunt. she had a pretty happy childhood
18. not finding a way to help karlach on time. she also feels horrible about not going with her to avernus, but knows she would still choose to stay with Astarion if she had to go through that decision again, it was just a very shitty decision to have to make
19. "if it covers your ass it's good enough"
20. I have a bunch of favourites so this will do
21. she tries to make people's lives easier, so I guess acts of service mainly. she's severely touch starved but struggles a lot with being the one to initiate contact because she's 75% fear of rejection 25% water
22. it used to be disappointing her role models but then she went and disappointed all of them in semi rapid succession so nowadays it's not being in control of herself
23. felt a bit sorry for ketheric but orin and gortash had it coming
24. no, she rarely gets attached to things because they can be lost or if they are valuable they can be sold. she keeps a few emotional value mementos at her parents' but nothing she carries around permanently
25. she has a complicated relationship with Baldur's Gate and is not thrilled to have to go back. before the game when she visited she stayed with her parents in Rivington and only went to the city proper once in a while to visit her grandma, but was usually in and out as quick as possible.
26. being restrained, charmed or stunned taps directly into some bad trauma so any enemy with related magic or attacks was a mental struggle on top of, you know, it being a fight already
27. yes, but they're both headcanon, not game scenes: physically, she took a really bad tumble when leaving rosymorn. mentally, shortly after arriving in Baldur's Gate the people who burned her face find out she's back and turn up at the Blushing Mermaid one night
28. she was considered reliable and cheap as a minor league monster hunter in some small circles, she got some repeat jobs from it. after the game she is considered painfully boring by a big chunk of the underdark spawn and the coolest person alive by a smaller chunk
29. she sleeps very little so she usually gets up before dawn, spends a lot of down time checking out the surroundings, keeping watch, or foraging. she's good at camping logistics in general, and can play some music for entertainment
30. after defeating the netherbrain she went to the underdark with spawn!Astarion. the only decision she struggled with was going with Karlach or staying, everything else was pretty cut and dry from her side, she's not interested in power at all

In Offense to Emilie Agreste
Hello there everyone, and- ...okay, put down your pitchforks, I haven't even started yet! Before an angry mob gathers 'round my blog, allow me to explain what today's rant is about. Unlike Lila Rossi, whose existence makes me want to hurl bricks at my screen whenever she appears, Emilie Agreste is actually a pretty interesting character. However, there are things about her (both canon and implied) that have me giving this picture-perfect gal a very intense side-eye. So today I'll be talking about what I think of her character, why I think she could have been written better, why she absolutely isn't a good person, and how the narritive does her a diservice by reducing this poor lass to an insignificant plot device, just so her clinically insane husband can have a reason to bully teenagers in spandex!
Firstly, let's quickly establish what we know about Emilie. I'll explain why I believe anything that isn't directly stated later, now it's just the basics. She and her sister Amelie are coming from a well-off family in England, presumably with quite high standards and expectations. We know little about her early life and it frankly isn't important, but she does at some point take an interest in the creative arts. She firsts meets her husband-to-be Gabriel when she arrives in Paris to further her education, and it's easy to assume they become friends due to similar interests. Then, later down the line, they meet Nathalie Sancoeur, with whom they scour the world to find the Miraculous jewels. After they do find the Butterfly and Peacock in Tibet, they all return to Paris and she creates Adrien Agreste, her son, using Duusu's powers. About twelve years later, she falls ill and "into a deep sleep" because the Peacock Miraculous was broken. This kicks off Gabriel's descent into madness and his crusade as Hawkmoth, which slowly drove him to insanity for reasons seen in this post. But still, this vague timeline leaves us with a lot of questions as to who she was as a person, and how she lived her life.
Before I delve deeper into this, I would quickly want to clarify the sources for the above information. We know from Represenation that Emilie met Gabriel when she went to Paris for educational reasons. I honestly don't remember if her field of study is mentioned, but considering she later stars in Andre's film "Solitude" it isn't hard to derive that said studies could be related. The high expectations from Emilie's family come from the fact that Gabriel had to change his name at some point in life, possibly because Emilie's parents wouldn't accept her marrying some "lowborn". Additionally, we know Amelie's marriage to Colt was arranged, so there definately is a sense of "securing the family lineage" here that exists in what remains of aristocracy today. In Passion, Nathalie is implied to be a treasure hunter of some sort at the time she meets Gabriel and Emilie, though how long she's been at the profession isn't clear. Still, they do work together to find the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous. We see in Evolution that they are occupying the Agreste Manor with the Peacock in hand, so it's possible they purchased the house either right after their trip to Tibet or before. Other relevant information comes from the thumbnails of Emilie's videos and photos from the Passion episode.
As an aside, Astruc better give us that Tibet special, because I need more Agreste family Lore! These people made their drama the entirety of France's problem and while I respect that, I need to know more! Also, Thomas' quote of "a lot can happen when three people are in close proximity for a long time"? Pretty sure that's from Twitter btw, if you want to look it up. I see you, Thomas...I see you...
Anyway, onto exploring Emilie's themes as a character. From the very start of the show, we have a lot of clues that point to her being an angelic, kind and can-do-no-wrong type of character, at the very least in Gabriel's eyes. There is a whole other topic here about him being obsessed with the past and looking at it with rose-tinted glasses, but I digress. The portrait of Emilie in the atelier, her photo in Adrien's room, and Gabriel's fond remniscing all give us the idea that she was a wonderful, lovely person! In fact, we even get a bit of personallity added to her in the Simon Says episode, where Gabriel tells Chat Noir "you have some of her (Emilie's) flair for dramatics". So of course, she was goofy sometimes, which is a trait we see Amelie share at least a little of in the Felix episode, what with her Elsa-style entrance into the manor. For Season 1, we got plenty of information as to her character, even if we didn't know her name quite yet.
In Season 2 we get more of these examples of her being a wonderful person who is dearly missed, such as the whole plot with the above-mentioned Solitude movie, and Adrien wanting to go see it. Why exactly Parisian cinema is playing this movie in the first place considering what we know about Andre abandoning his career as a director is completely unknown and reeks of a plothole to me, but then again so do half the episodes in general. Point is, from very early on in this show we get a positive perspective on Emilie's character. Sure, there's a lot we don't know about her, but I'm sure her wedding day, her early years with Gabriel, their actual relationship, whatever she had going on with Nathalie, and the whole drama with her parents and later Amelie's husband isn't important...right?
Yeah no I'm not letting her off the hook. Aside from the obvious Adrien stuff that I'll get into in a bit, it seems suspicious to me that nobody can ever come up with anything negative to say about Emilie. And I don't mean a genuine character flaw, even if nobody is perfect, I mean just...something embarrassing? An old joke shared between friends from college, a little detail that sheds light at her sense of humor, even a fond recollection of something silly that happened in her youth. There's nothing. Aside from Gabriel saying she had a dramatic flair, which I will talk about, we know nothing about Emilie Agreste as a person. She barely feels alive, almost existing solely to be the "dead wife" archetype of the show. And okay sure, some of that is the fault of whoever was in the writing room when they try to bring her up. But come on, you're telling me Nathalie doesn't have a single memory or photo in that large stack of recollections that shows her being alive for once?
And of course I don't mean Emilie being literally alive, we see plenty of that. But think back to the photo with Gabriel, Audrey, Emilie and Andre for a second. As an example. I can't recal the exact details, but Emilie is standing to the side, closer to being out of frame than anyone else. In the middle of the shot, the other three seem to be having a good time, but she's only giving a polite, proper smile to her friends. Naturally, not every person out there is extremely expressive, but this is a safe space. Emilie is with close friends and everyone is enjoying themselves, yet her face looks like she came out of a portrait. When I noticed that little detail, I went running to find more. Aside from the videos that she left behind, we've never seen her speak or interact with any character excepting that Evolution scene where she first gets the Miraculous. So can we please think about this logically for a second? What kind of person is Emilie Agreste?
She was born in high society, with a lot of expectations on her shoulders and only her sister for company in her formative years, if Adrien and Chloe's sibling-like bond is anything to go by. And yes that's another post entirely, but they were childhood friends and he had almost nobody else his age to talk to, so I'm drawing a parallel. I won't speculate at all about Emilie's childhood, because frankly it's irrelevant to today's conversation. What I will say however, is that everyone we meet who has interacted with her has fond memories and good things to say about her. And every depiction of Emilie we get, even those not made by Gabriel, she seems to radiate perfection. And that right there is her character's theme. Being perfect. She presumably was the perfect daughter, the perfect (or at least a good enough) student to go to France in order to further her education, so on and so forth. But her family life very much isn't anything close to that. For one, her sister is stuck in an arranged marriage with an abusive a-hole who seems to have been spat directly out of a Texas steretype. There is no indication that Emilie knew about this, but...she also eventually let Colt borrow the Peacock Miraculous to make Felix. Clearly she entrusted Colt Fathom of all people with a magical artifact that can make sentient life, because sure, that seems perfectly reasonable!
Of course signs of abuse are hard to notice even when directly pointed out, but for the purposes of Emilie and Amelie, it seems fundementally against the good, pure and angelic character that Emilie has been presented as to even consider handing Duusu over to Colt. I'm ignoring the issue of Tomoe since that hasn't been explained, but there's clearly something wrong here. And now...now we come to Adrien's home life. We know that he has never been to public school before Origins, which happened only because Chloe enrolled him by the way, and Gabriel does allow him to go at the end of the day. We didn't know at the time, but it does seem reasonable for Gabriel to refuse him completely here, seeing that in hindsight, Adrien's class specifically becomes a hotspot for Akumatizations. But despite this danger, Gabriel still allows Adrien to remain in public school. Additionally, it's completely reasonable to assume that a pre-teen and later teenager would want more freedom to explore the world, and I find it incredibly unlikely that Adrien only expressed this after Emilie keeled over. Surely, this child would have wanted to make friends before then, especially if Chloe would brag about how many friends she has in school, which seems like a thing she would absolutely do to impress him. Sure, that last bit is speculation, but Chloe does act like this all the time in Season 1, so it's natural to consider that she did so before too! The thought of Gabriel being the permissive parent here, and therefore not the one keeping Adrien inside all the time...it really frightens me.
And just to be clear, this isn't a tinfoil-hat "Emilie is secretly evil" theory or anything like that. I'm just saying that she isn't perfect, never has been, and actually made a lot of mistakes during her life. Especially with Adrien. Because doesn't it seem like a loving mother's attitude to want to spend time with her precious son, showing affection and being with him at all times? As a reminder, unless the concept of adoption was never invented in this universe, Emilie Agreste could have just grabbed a child out of an orphanage at any point during her lifetime. But instead, she specifically wanted this one, Adrien. And what does she do to get her precious, perfect baby boy? Why, she scours the entire planet with her huband (possibly to-be) and her definately-not-side-chick Nathalie the treasure hunter to find a magic brooch that gives her the power to make him herself, exactly how she wants! Plot aside for a minute, doesn't that sound a little bit insane to you? The desire to have a child alone wouldn't drive anyone to go to such lengths, and this is assuming she is infertile or has some other problem that a good night under the stars with her pals Gabriel and Nathalie won't fix!
Clearly, Emilie had something very specific in mind when going through all the magical, mystical and half-maddening hoops that she had to go through in order to make Adrien in the first place! She practically dragged her husband and their friend on a worldwide trip just to find some tiny bird goddess stuck in a brooch! Are you reading this correctly? And then after Adrien popped into existence (presumably by being carried to term, etc.) Emilie made sure to shower him with love and adoration. But she also kept him isolated, and secure. This isn't as much speculation as it is just reading between the lines, but Adrien seems constantly awestruck throughout the show when presented with new experiences. Not to mention another disturbing thing, she was put inside the life support pod with Adrien Amok on her finger! That's a huge red flag, right in front of us, but it's been ignored because Gabriel is the one who uses it on-screen. Consider that by the time he does use the Ring, Gabriel is well on his way to utter insanity, considering that Shadowmoth is already unhinged enough to quickly evolve into Monarch once the conditions are right. Gabriel has absolutely no chill when it comes to terrorizing innocent people, or using Adrien's Amok to control him when need be. So why is there an implication of Emilie doing the same when she should have been perfectly sane and not driven to desperation because of a loved one's loss like her husband? Again, go check out this post for a full Gabriel analysis.
I'm not saying that Emilie was evil or crazy or a psychopath or anything of the sort. I'm telling you all that she had control issues. Among all the other stuff we know, and with said information pool being tiny to start with, Emilie Agreste seems so intersting! There should have been a whole plot point about removing the rose-tinted glasses that her death cast down on Gabriel, Adrien and Nathalie! There should have been flashbacks to when she was alive! We should have seen her interact and show love towards Adrien! To her credit, Emilie did see that her death was going to mess with Gabriel's head tremendously, and left him a little video politely asking that he doesn't become an internation terrorist. You know, just as a failsafe. It sure is a shame that she never had that conversation with her husband when she was still awake, or that to our knowledge, never said goodbye to Adrien. The public narrative is that she "disapeared". Are you joking me? Of course Gabriel covered everything up, but this is never adressed!
The writers have a ironically perfect character in their hands! Emilie is a mystery to the audience, she has a complicated relationship with both the show's main villains (Lila doesn't count if she's in barely a dozen episodes), one of the titular characters, and is also literally the reason why the show's events kick off in the first place! But we are shown nothing of her for over one hundred episodes of Miraculous! Even Ephemeral, one of the episodes I hate the most in the whole show, could have given us a glimpse into whatever Gabriel's restructured world would have looked like! It was the perfect oppurtunity for us to see Emilie up on her feet and actually having a role to play, instead of just discount Mrs Freeze! Yes I know her name is Nora, I know it's not the same situation, shush, I'm making a "Emilie is in the basement fridge" joke. The writers and Thomas did this woman so dirty it's not even funny! And I am offended at her, because at the end Emilie serves no purpose than to have Gabriel be "sympathetic" in Season 2! There are a dozen plot threads just dangling around for them to rip out of the ceiling and play with, but Emilie's very existence amounts to absolutely nothing! A gravestone would have served as a better character, because at least there could be something useful writen on it! Some kind of descriptor that gave us any insight into her personality!
But no, she's a blank slate! She's just some gal that showed up, found a magic peafowl and keeled over, ultimately leading to Adrien's sheltered home life, social awkwardness, and mommy issues! Because you cannot tell me that Emilie's parenting, no matter how well-meaning, didn't screw Adrien's early life up! She could have been the best mum in the world and it still wouldn't have mattered, because she considered him her perfect creation! Can you see the irony here? Can you observe the myriad of metaphors and the hundreds of ways this can get included in a story? Does Thomas Astruc and his team want me to have a mental breakdown??? Like, excuse me, honestly excuse me, but the sheer amount of offense I take both on Emilie's behalf and to her utter uselessness in this franchise is astronomical! I love this character! I really do! Wrote a whole alternate backstory for her where she and Nathalie are college roomates and everything! Heck, I love her so much that I did make her into a crazy psychopath in one of my AUs just so she can play a key part in that story as the Hawkmoth-equivilant! My love and adoration for Emilie Agreste reaches the god damned moon and back, but unless she actually has more than ten seconds of dialogue in some kind of flashback or prequel, I will continue to be offended! I'll continue to be pissed! And I'll continue to pray for the day where she becomes more than a practically irrelevant plot device!
Anyway, I need to cool off. I need to have a drink. I need to relax and take a break before making the post in defense of poor Chloe, because she too got shafted by the narritive, just like Adrien's mum. Expect it sometime soon, or at the very least when I'm not going insane over the fact that despite directly causing every major event in this franchise to occur, Emilie Agreste is a bigger question mark than the dude in a banana costume. Seriously, what the heck is up with Mr Banana anyway? I'll be seeing you all soon, but until then, Stay Miraculous everyone!

LGBT youth is desperately in need of useful and inclusive sex education. I get it's delicate for us because LGBT adults (and tbh even LGBT kids) are accused of being sex-addicted pedophilic freaks by virtue of breathing, so out of internalized shame and just the need to keep ourselves safe we tend to avoid doing anything that could be perceived as even remotely predatory, but I think it's about time we start trying to find safe and appropriate ways to educate LGBT youth on sex. Cishets clearly aren't going to do it for us.
As absolutely vital as education on how to have safe sex is, especially with the impact that the AIDS epidemic had (and continues to have) in our community, I don't mean JUST educating LGBT youth on how to have safe sex.
Our communities are in desperate need of education on how to have happy, fun sex (which of course includes teaching about consent in LGBT contexts). How to have sex that isn't missionary penetrative sex, or other forms of sex that cishet couples replicate regularly. I do mean the "het" in there because m/w partners in which one or more of them are bi, including the cis ones, can and do have sex differently from their heterosexual counterparts and they matter just as much as everyone else in the community.
Speaking specifically regarding wlw and sex, we're so easily plagued by conceptions of cishet sex, which is very detrimental to us considering a majority of us don't have the ability to penetrate our partners without a toy (be it due to not having a penis or to HRT making erections like that not always possible) and even our use of toys is mocked or stigmatized ("Haha, you guys can't have sex without toys, your sex is silly and fake"), so we're stuck dealing without any support with redefining what "real sex" means to us, having the sexual acts most of us can or want to perform be deemed as Actually Just Foreplay and thus our sex is incomplete, a bad rip off of the "real sex" everyone else can have. That's not even going into how often our only sources of what w/w sex looks like is porn created by and for men so we end up not knowing how to fuck without trying to appeal to an omnipresent invisible male audience.
When it comes to my use of "inclusive" above I mean, of course, inclusive of trans people of all sexualities.
I'm in a long term relationship with another lesbian who happens to be trans. It took us so long to figure out how to have fun happy sex that didn't trigger her dysphoria and that didn't trigger me in relation to how the very idea of replicating cishet sex (which can happen to me with a woman with any type of body, so please don't read my words in bad faith) makes me feel genuinely suicidal. Just because of the bodies we each have by nature, we felt for so long that there were only a few restrictive ways in which we were supposed to or even could have sex. It took us literal years to start overcoming that and now that we've made so much progress in that aspect our relationship as a couple and our relationships to ourselves and our own bodies are so much healthier.
Wouldn't you know, part of what helped us was remembering an online zine we saw years ago on how to have sapphic sex with a trans woman beyond penetration (either her penetrating or her being penetrated). It was so hard for us to process in the past that sex doesn't have to include penetration as soon as one of the people involved has a penis. Mind you, we do like that too and there's nothing wrong with any sort of wlw couple having penetrative sex. That's still sapphic because it's two women doing it, but it's not the only way, and we might have never learned that hadn't other LGBT people told us about it.
I don't feel educated enough to speak on sexual inclusivity regarding intersex LGBT people, but I do know that this is a very sensitive issue as well for them and we really do need to tackle the subject, with intersex voices at the forefront.
We need to teach each other, but especially younger LGBT people, how to redefine sex for ourselves, how sex can look outside of the dyadic cishet norm, that we don't need to appeal to dyadic cishet notions of what sex is supposed to look like. We need too to help each other break away from the shame we're taught around gay, bi and trans lust, especially when it comes to LGBT women, with how taboo female lust is in general. Before we became more "mainstream", LGBT communities were much bigger on going against that than we seem to be now and it's a problem that in many spaces we've pulled a complete 180 on it. It's harming us tremendously as a community and as individuals.
We can't keep waiting for schools and other establishments dominated by dyadic cishets to do the work for us. If they were to bother mentioning us at all, they'll often do it in incomplete or harmful ways. We need LGBT sex education now and we need to do it ourselves, as scary and difficult as it may be.

a/n: not me crying at 2am about an Oikawa edit, that was my twin sister not me at all...this is totally self indulgent so uhm...yeah. Hope you enjoy it tho!!
edit: i'm so sorry for reposting again but i really feel that the best exposure is int the first hours let's hope this time it stays đ
Oikawa Tooru x fReader
Summary: in which you are tired of hearing how is never enough for Oikawa Tooru.
Genre: angst, fluffy end tho, established relationship
Now playing âł King by Lauren Aquilina ; Next to me by Imagine Dragons
WC~2k
It had become part of your routine at this point, sitting on the couch for hours, staring bluntly at some program as you wait for your boyfriend to come home.
It was not the passion he has for volleyball that has you on a gloomy mood today. It was  not falling asleep on an empty bed as you heard the sounds of balls hitting the wooden floor coming from the speakers of his laptop in the living room, and it was not how  your throat becomes dry after you begged him to sleep.
But you were tired, that is the only way to express it, tired of feeling your heart clench at the way he neglects himself, at this point you didnât even care if he neglected you, which wasnât the case, but him.
Your phone always got texts from him, asking if you had breakfast, if you had lunch or simply saying a hello. He called you before coming home offering you to bring some sweet from that store you liked so much. But, when you asked him if he had a good lunch, those tests always seemed to get lost in his inbox.
Oikawa always gave you a smile as the same words came out of the lips that kissed you every morning.
âDonât you want me to be the best, my love?â
That simple phrase always seemed to wrap your heart in a death cold no matter the sweetness in his tone, they made impossible for you to come with an argument that would make Oikawaâs stubborn head understand. Understand that he was slowly tearing himself up and hurting you in the process. Â
However, none of that is what had you sitting on the couch right now, arms crossed over your chest and lips pressed together, but as soon as Oikawa crossed the door, he knew the exact reason.
âY/N-chan? I thought you were going out with your friends todayâ, he drops the bag on the ground, the keys of your shared apartment hitting the floor in the process, âShitâ
Your eyes are trained on the way his face contorts as he reaches for the keys, making your heart sink.
âAnyways, how are you, cutie?â, Oikawa stands in his full height before displaying a closed-eye smile at you.
However, his trademark grin fades as he sees your brows furrowing together, the air suddenly charging with the accumulated tension.
âIs there something wââ
âYou tell meâ, when you look at his knee with inquiring eyes, Oikawa blinks before turning his face away from you.
âIt is nothingâ, his mouth twitches down, âIâm fineâ
âno you are notâ
His answer only makes you sigh loudly as your mind goes back to the early hours of today, the scene that made your chest sting popping out.
Oikawa had kissed your forehead like every other  morning before mumbling a brief goodbye, he chuckled lightly at the way you babbled some sort of greet and  he walked to the door like every other day but he failed to notice how your eyes opened and gazed at him.
His eyes widened as he felt the burn on his right leg, not knowing you were watching in horror the way his knee falters, causing his leg to tremble before giving in to gravity. He held onto the handle tightly, gritting his teeth to capture the whine that threatened your sleep. However, when he turned around, he founded your half-closed eyes fixated on him, but before you could say anything, he rushed away hoping your mind was clouded enough with tiredness to forget about it.
âHow long?â, you ask, standing up slowly and moving towards him.
âI donât know, whatââ
âWhen started hurting this bad?â
His gaze fixes on the ground, his fists clamp together, annoyance bubbling up in his stomach. He knows whatâs coming, he has heard that discourse way too many times to not know how this conversation will go.
âSince always Y/N!â, he cries out almost in pain, his hair moving violently matching with his gestures, the gap in your mouth mirrors the shock in you.
âYou need a break TooruâŠâ
âSo they can found someone better? No, thank youâ, he lets out a dry laugh as he looks down at you.
âWhat is the point if you end up not being able to walk without limping??!!â, your voice falters at the end as you picture him holding onto the handle for stability, âYou are out of controlâŠâ
Oikawaâs nails dig into his palm as he frowns, eyes narrowing at you with dangerous intensity.
âAs if you knewâŠâ , the sharpness in his voice makes nothing but press the wound in your heart furthermore.
âOf course, I know, damn it! Tooru you are barely sleeping! I donât know if youâre even eating properly since we almost never have any meal together!â
And then as if your words had hit the right nerve inside the setter, Oikawa snaps, the look he shoots at you makes your movements halt and your voice dissolves into silence. He was tired and frustrated but ultimately scared and the fact you couldnât see how scared he was, only frustrates him more.
âNo, you donât know a fucking thing! I need to get better!!â
âTooru you are their regular setter already!â, you scream at him your face getting red with anger as your tone fades into a bare whisper, âNothing is enough for you, isnât it?!â
Oikawa knew that the question itself wasnât entirely related to his volleyball career. The pleading look you give him and the tremble in your lips tells him that you are not only referring to the all the medals and recognitions but about your relationship itself.
You were asking him if you werenât enough for himâŠAnd maybe you werenât.
âNo!â, the word comes out rushed, his thoughts getting more and more clouded by frustration. You grit your teeth when Oikawa places a hand on his forehead as if he had a bad headache, as if you were the cause of the annoying hammering,
âYou are so selfishâŠcanât you see all what you haââ, your voice comes in low hiss and before you can finish he lets out a loud groan as the keys in his hand fly across the room landing with a loud thud against your living room table, making you flinch.
âWhy can you just let me do what I have to? Is it too much for your head to understand?!â, he shouts, and you feel a sting in your chest, your eyes almost seem to fall from your face and your breath stops as you see how your boyfriendâs face contorts in malice.
âI could pick any of those girls who wait for me after the matches, you know? Â I could have any of them and they wouldnât be as half as annoying as you!â
Oikawaâs chocolate orbits are piercing at you in anticipation when he catches the redness saturating your eyes, causing his heart to drop to the ground.
âIââ
âGo, pick a nobody who only wants to fuck with you,â you try your best to not flinch, but the venom in his words make a silent tear to roll down your cheek, âbecause Iâm not staying to watch how you destroy yourselfâ
You walk past him, brushing his shoulder roughly, your steps to the door are so fast, he doesnât get a chance to even try to reach for your hand.
The slam of the door makes a feeling of anguish settle on his chest. His feet move subconsciously to the door when a loud groan leave his lips, the pain on his knee makes his whole body shiver as he falls apart a meter away of the handle.
âShit, shit, shitâ, he whines as he manages to move his body until his back is leaning against the door, his hand travels to his pocket, desperately pulling out his phone, a pout cross his features when your name pops on his recent calls. The phone rings and rings but no answer comes, when the small device turns off, he feels himself growing numb.
And the minutes turn into hours, the night wrapping the city as Oikawa rests against the door.
Oikawa had never felt this desperate, the pain in his knee is unnoticeable compared to the ache swelling in his chest. One call, one message, anything that would let him know that you are safe, that is all he needs right now.
âWhat did you do for her to stay with you?â, Iwaizumiâ words ring in his ears, âYou are lucky Oikawaâ
He was lucky indeed, his head drops to the back, hitting the wood, his breath falters as tears stream down his face until they turn into uncontrollable sobs, the sting on his knee and the guilt mixing painfully together.
Suddenly, the door pushes his body to the side, hitting the back of his head causing him to grunt.
âTooru?â, his eyes widen, he turns immediately to encounter your still glassy eyes gazing down at him in confusion, âWhat are you doing on the floor?â
Your voice is stoic however it is music for Oikawaâs ears, he quickly brushes the tears away from his face as he tries to stand up, a hiss slipping his throat.
âOh god, Tooru!â, you quickly leave the store bag you are carrying and bend down to support him, âI bought someâ
âIâM SO SORRY Y/N!! I-I DIDNâT MEAN TOââ, he groans as you try to lift him up but your small figure canât do much to move the former captain of Seijoh, so you just drop him carefully back on the floor and kneel in front of him, âP-Please donât leaveâŠâ
Your silence makes his heartbeat pace faster and he grabs your hands tightly, his gaze fixes on yours and you notice the fear his orbits hold. You have never seen him this vulnerable and your eyes donât fail to show your surprise.
âPlease donât leave me Y/N-chanâ, your lips press softly over his own before he says anything else, Oikawaâs brows furrow together as he squeezes your hands gently, sighing, relived.
âYou should get someone betterââ, he says,
âYou are probably rightâ, you sigh, âyou did hurt me, butâ I guess I just love you that muchâ, he loses himself in the softness of your voice and tears threaten to come out again.
âI truly admire how hard you work but you have to take care of yourself Tooruââ,his glassy eyes look at you, still not able to believe youâre here, next to him, you bit your lip before cupping his cheek, ââyou might not be the king of volleyball yet, but for what it is worth, youâre the king to meâ
You blush violently but not even as close as the flustered red that tints Oikawaâs features, he leans in hesitantly to claim your lips and you both melt in the kiss.
He never thought such words would made him feel so complete and he realizes that all he ever needed was you by his side.
âNot gonna lie, I was hoping youâd say, âyou are the king of my heartâ or something like thatâ
âI-Canât you just take the stupid compliment?â, he chuckles with a husky tone but suddenly stops, he places a hand on your cheek his thumb making soothing circles over your flushed skin.
âThank youâ
âUh?â
âFor giving me another chanceâ, your knees start to sore from kneeling on the floor but you canât move as his chocolates eyes stare into your own brimming with emotion, âI love you so much, Iâm so sorry Y/Nâ
âIf so, stop overworking yourself, okay?â
Your fingers tangle with his brown locks as he whispers a silent yes, burying his face in the crook of your neck, his arms wrapping your torso tightly as if he was still scared you fade away. Â
Oikawa doesnât  have a  throne, but heâll proudly wear the title you gave him, and heâll do his best the be worthy of the crown that comes with it.
â Please reblog if you like it! â
Thanks for reading âĄâĄâĄ

hiii, how are you? may i ask angst alphabet for Ace? thank you â€ïž
Angst Alphabet - Portgas D. Ace
a/n: hi hi!! here you go! OMG angst is still really hard LOL I donât want to think about their rough life đđđđđ ANYWHOOOOO thank you for requesting and I hope you enjoy<3
warnings: on the letter S there is mention of self harm
A-Accident (would they blame themselves if you died in an accident?)
Ace would definitely blame himself. Heâs always thought he was a no-good demon child, son of a criminal that didnât deserve to be alive (despite finding people that truly cared and loved him). You dying in an accident and him not being able to do anything about it would just reinforce what he already thinks of himself.
Regardless of your cause of death he is likely to attribute it to your association with himself, and because of that he will think it is entirely his fault, even if he wasnât present at the time of your death.
B-Break up (How would they break up with you?)
His lessons with Makino really helped him develop manners and just a general sense of acceptable behaviour. So, Ace would just be clear and up front, no mixed messages, no miscommunication. He would take you some place quiet and away from others, and then he would be as honest and vulnerable as possible â itâs the least you deserve. The break-up would be very civil, you would definitely end on good terms (doesnât make it any less sad though).
C-Crying (how would they make you cry?)
Sometimes Ace can take his teasing a little too far. Usually you can handle it, but there are just some days where his words cut deeper than ever intended (even if they have no malice behind them). Itâs not his fault youâre having a bad day, or not realizing you are having a bad day. Itâs just one of those things that happens sometimes. As soon as you start to cry though, he apologizes and reassures you so much, to make sure you known he doesnât mean it and heâs only playing around.
D-Death (how would they react to your death?)
It would start out with a lot of confusion, like âwhat t-that must be some kind of a sick joke. H-how⊠w-what⊠they wouldnât just die like that.â After it really sinks in that you have in fact died, Ace will just get angry. I donât see him as much of a crier (spoiler alert â we only see him truly allow himself to cry on two occasions 1) when luffy got crazy hurt as a child and 2) when ace was on deaths door), so I believe he would react with anger.
Regardless of your cause of death (natural causes, accident, died in battle etc.) Ace would be unbelievably angry with himself, the world and you. He would be angry at himself for being unable to save you, someone he cares about and loves deeply. He would be angry at the world and whatever higher being there may be for choosing now to be your time. There are so many horrible, horrible people in the world, yet you had to die? It makes no sense. Lastly, he would be angry at you. Not a genuine anger but more so a âhow could you just leave me like this? We were meant to be together forever.â
E-Emotion (what is one emotion they would try to hide the most and how would they do it?)
I think Ace tends to try his sadness. He tries to put on a brave face, not wanting anyone to see him cry as he doesnât want to be viewed as weak or be even more of a burden on others.
F-Fight (how often do you fight? What do you fight about? Do you fight often? Etc.)
Fights with Ace, although they donât happen often, can quickly get out of hand. Heâs stubborn and his inability to accept that heâs not always right can cause a minor disagreement to escalate into an all-out fight. On a few occasions you have argued about him never turning his back on an opponent.
Your fights tend to be followed by cooldown time. Things can get quite heated (no pun intended) so you need some alone time and space to breathe. After that though, you comeback together and apologize.
G-Guilt (what is the biggest thing they feel guilty about?)
For his entire life, Ace has lived with the guilt of simply existing. He doesnât think himself worthy of being alive. Can you blame him? Itâs all anyone ever told him growing up. Despite eventually finding people who loved him for him, those feelings of inadequacy and worthlessness still remain and continue to plague his mind.
H-Heartbreak (what would cause them pain in the relationship? How would they deal during a break-up?)
During a break-up Ace is quiet. He doesnât want to be around anyone or anything. He wants to be left completely alone so he can sort out his thoughts and feelings. Heâd be quite devasted because heâs had so few people in his life love him on as deep a level as you did.
I-Injured (how would they react if you are badly injured?)
Ace would absolutely lose it if you were injured. Heâd be concerned, upset, and angry all at once. First things first, he needs to know if you are going to be ok. Once thatâs been established, heâll be upset at himself for allowing this to happen. This will be replaced by the pure anger he feels at whoever, or whatever, caused this.
J-Jealousy (what do they do if they are jealous?)
When he gets jealous he turns into such a man child. Heâs pouting and moping around while mumbling to himself. He develops quite a petty attitude. If you were to ask him âwant to go get something to eat?â heâd respond with âwhy donât you just go and ask ____ for some food.â But, as soon as you begin commenting on how jealous heâs acting heâs going to deny it to the end of his days.
K-Kill (would they kill for revenge?)
Ace literally hunted down Blackbeard so he could get revenge on him for killing Thatch. Itâs not certain whether or not Ace had the intention of killing Blackbeard, however, he definitely had both the spirit and anger to go through with killing him. So, it is possible that Ace would kill for revenge. However, for the most part, he would prefer to just beat them senseless.
L-Loss (what is their greatest loss?)
Either Sabo or his motherâs death, would be considered Aceâs greatest loss. His mother died when he was a new-born, so he doesnât particularly remember, or know, anything about her other than the fact that she was a kind wonderful woman. However, the loss of Sabo is something he remembers vividly. Losing Sabo had a major impact on Ace. It was an unfortunate wake up call as to how awful the world truly is.
M-Mistake (what is the worst mistake they ever made with you?)
One night, after a particularly bad day filled with a horrible series of events, Ace was letting off some steam (quite literally I suppose). Messing with his devil fruit power, throwing some flames around. He hadnât noticed your presence and so his flames nearly burnt you. He was horrified, and he only felt worse after he noticed the pure terror in your eyes.
N-Nightmares (how often do they have them? What are they about? How do they deal with it?
Ace has nightmares frequently, they vary, but they all have the same underlying theme, that is, the people in his life donât actually care about him and only view him the same way everyone else views the son of the pirate kind â a worthless devil with no right to life. He wakes up from his dreams in a sweat and finds himself in desperate need of fresh air (ya know to try and clear his mind). He ends up just sitting out on the deck of the Moby Dick looking up at the sky trying to tell himself it was all a dream. But his insecurity and self-doubt begin to resurface and soon he canât discern imagination from reality. However, the moment someone else on the crew even speaks to Ace with something as simple as a âmorning dudeâ heâs brought back down to earth and thinks to himself âno thatâs rightâŠ. They love me⊠I wouldnât be here right now if they didnât.â
Itâs a vicious cycle, but in the end, he manages to remember (even if itâs just for a little bit) that he is cherished.
O-Outrage (how and why would they get mad at you?)
When you continuously tell him thereâs no need to stay and fight every single opponent. Itâs okay to turn and runaway â in fact itâs safer to do that. When you say that he feels as though you donât understand him. Heâs not some careless, impulsive child whoâs just looking for a fight (okay maybe he is a little bit). So he doesnât really get super angry, itâs more so that he is frustrated and a little upset that you donât try to see it from his perspective.
P-Past (what has happened in your relationship that changed the way you saw each other?)
Itâs the same as the worst mistake heâs ever made with you â nearly burning you with his devil fruit. It made you realize that Ace can actually be quite dangerous (although you know he would NEVER hurt you intentionally). It made Ace realize that he needs to be more careful, the look of pure terror in your eyes has stayed with him ever since that incident, serving as a reminder.
Q-Quality (what is their most dangerous/toxic quality?)
His tendency to not back down from a fight is simultaneously his most endearing and toxic trait. He constantly places himself in dangerous situations with minimal concern for his own safety.
R-Rejection (how would they react to you rejecting their confession (or the other way around))
Having his confession rejected by you was definitely a blow to his self-esteem, but he respected and accepted your feelings. Instead of moping around about it he decides to laugh it off, trying to make light of a slightly disappointing situation.
S-Scars (battle or self-inflicted)
Ace does not have any scars, battle related or self-inflicted.
TW self-harm: I do think ace got worryingly close to self-harming, but Sabo and Luffy made him rethink it all.
T-Trust (have they ever broken your trust?)
The one and only time Ace broke your trust was after Blackbeards betrayal. You made him promise to take you with him when he left to hunt down Blackbeard because you didnât want him to go alone. He promised but he had no intention of keeping that promise.
U-Urge (how badly do they want to see you after you guys separated?)
For a while Ace manages to get by by keeping himself preoccupied. But as soon as he lets up for even a minute, he realizes how much he misses you and is beyond tempted to just sail on back to wherever you are and tackle you to the ground plastering your face in lil kisses. When heâs not distracted, he really does miss you a lot. He hyper-fixates on what you could be doing at this very moment, whether or not you miss him too etc.
V-Vicious (what do they do when they lash out on you?)
When ace gets mad, he tends to get very loud. He raises his voice quite a lot and it becomes very, very frightening. He would never physically hurt you, but the anger and frustration in his voice is more than another to scare the shit out of you.
W-Weak (what makes them feel weak how do they try to avoid it?)
Constantly being reminded or associated with the Pirate King. Maybe it doesnât make him feel weak, but it makes him feel horrible inside and stirs up a lot of feelings and remarks people would make when he was younger. Unfortunately, once word gets out there isnât much Ace can do to stop this from happening, however, before this, Ace avoided this by not telling ANYONE. He only told Luffy and Sabo, with a very small handful of others knowing (i.e Garp).
X-X-ray (what do they hate and show it most obviously?)
He hates turning his back on a fight or turning his back on people that talk shit about those he cares about. This is seen during the Marineford arc. He doesnât let Akainus words about Whitebeard slide. He doesnât runaway. He has no tolerance for that shit.
Y-Yearn (what is one thing that they want but canât have?)
Ok this may be dark as hell but, Ace just wants to not feel like a burden to the world. He wants to be viewed as something different/separate from his father, but he canât change history.
Z-Zero (what do they do/say in your dying moments?)
He doesnât let you go. Heâll hold on to you until he is forcefully separated from your body. He just starts to spout a lot of nonsense â things donât make sense at all, but he canât help it right now. He canât think properly when youâre about to leave him. He just wants you to stay.

I feel kind of alone right now in the IY fandom for still liking and having faith in Rumiko Takahashi. I feel like people are justified in being mad at her and confused about the recent cover art she did, but I just sort of feel like the hatred is getting a little outta hand, especially since we don't really KNOW what's going on w/ her behind the scenes or what she's thinking, and I just think because of that, we don't really have a right to pass judgment on her yet.
To me, the fault still lies squarely on Sunrise and Sunrise alone as of right now.
That's just me though.
Sorry I'm telling you this outta nowhere. I've just been stewing over this for the last few days and have wanted to say something but been too afraid to, and you seemed like a safe person to talk about this with after seeing your recent Rumiko Takahashi posts.
Eh, thatâs what Iâm here for! Thereâs no need to apologize đ„șđ.
Iâve been a fan of Takahashiâs since 2006 and that cover art made me dramatically break down for what Iâm sure is the 50th time since Yashahimeâs release. While legitimately getting depressed and drinking sake in a bathtubâplease see evidence below (Ranma 1/2 is my ultimate comfort manga) lolâ
a friend called. She and I roomed in college and sheâs always been supportive of my love of Takahashiâs works. Maybe it was the situationship I was talking her through a few weeks prior, but she heard me drop advice Iâd given her once (or like a hundred times) before. And she stopped me. She 100% wanted me to hear what I said about that damned cover art. Although Iâm sure my sentence was longer and less elegant, she told me I said, âTakahashi isnât responsible for our emotions.â Seriously, my old roommate really stopped my babbling to make me marinate on more than just the bath salts attempting to relieve the tensions in my muscles from Yashahime. I felt so attacked đ
.
Iâve come to the conclusion that there will be no response from Takahashi that makes everyone happy when it comes to Yashahime andâfor meâthatâs okay. When I think about Takahashiâs animes, theyâre not the ones winning awards. And when I think about Takahashi as a content creator, sheâs not exactly perfect. Seriously, weâre all getting decisive on behalf of a woman who has the audacity to answer, âI donât know,â when asked questions about her own manga đ€Ł. If thatâs not humbling as a fan, I donât know what is. Still, this doesnât mean Takahashi doesnât care about her characters or her works.
Rumiko Takahashi doesnât owe us explanations, our reactions to her interactions with the manga vs. anime are not direct reflections of her personal emotions, and if she has any more thoughts on Yashahime Iâm not really interested in hearing them anymore.
Iâve kind of blacked it out, but I think 2020 is when episode fifteen of Yashahime aired (could have been 2021, Iâve lost track of the time) and I got the ultimate sucker punch with the mother of the twins confirmed. It was hard, but now that I can reflect, Iâve been defending notions about InuYasha that Sunrise introduced long before this. Itâs exhausting and heartbreaking. Sunrise isnât even paying me to deal with their shit, but Iâve been clearing up their misinterpretations of InuYasha for years. Way longer than I needed to. And itâs always been a worthwhile fight because InuYasha is more than pages in a magazine to me, and I feel like thatâs a sentiment many of us relate to. Itâs why itâs weird to see such a monumental influence be shredded like a tapestry by a sequel that should never have happened.
Iâve read countless interviews from Takahashi, and Iâd like to think Iâm familiar with how her mind works. That being established, Iâve never sat down to talk with her, so hell if I know đ
. Still, I feel like she brings good intentions to the table. Good intentions are not always enough. Iâm not here to defend her per se, but Iâll go down with Takahashi. Sheâs my girl! If Yashahime isnât making you happyâif the entire anime of InuYasha doesnât sit well with you anymoreâditch it. Stick to the manga (you know, the one that officially concluded in 2008 đ). If the entire story of InuYasha is driving you nuts, Takahashi probably has over 200 manga published at this point, knock yourself out. Theyâre all incredible. If Takahashi doesnât float your boat anymore, itâs a 3ft deep lazy river that loops. Feel free to ditch your pool floatie, towel off, and find a manga/mangaka that better fits what you need right now. Your media experience is dictated by you, and if people have issues with it, that was bound to happen regardless of this sequel.
I canât spend the rest of my life lamenting Takahashi and her opinions on someone elseâs take about two characters in InuYasha that I can easily forget (even though I adore Rin, her sass is top notch lol). And if that makes me the worst person in the world and damns me to hell, fine. I got a beef to settle with Sunrise down there anyway, I might as well earn my spot.
Iâm not sure if this is the answer you were looking for, but Iâve been going through it, too. It was therapeutic for me to give you this insight, so I hope it helps. Takahashi can be a bit of a goof ball, but sheâs marvelous. Even if I get cranky about Sunrise, please know that I will always be a Takahashi safe space â€ïž.

âCABBAGEâ
A/N: First, I wanna apologize to the Diakko day mods that reviewed a completely different fic for me that was supposed to be my entry, but then... boom new diakko day entry. Iâm sorry ;-;, I just couldnât figure out a flow that would still have what I had in mind. Uwu, sorry for using up your precious time.
Soulmate, non-magic? AU. Cliche stuff, common trope. STILL. Iâm using it. Fun fact, I slaved away for this for two/three days hoho~ peak procrastination, donât encourage it. Also on ao3, but I have a habit of posting full chaps on tumblr. Teehee. This is... long... (could have been a crazy multi-chap, ey?) but I guess thatâs what you get for trying to fit a full story with an AU setting that needs to be established. Sorry if it feels slow with regards to reaching DiAkko, but donât worry, from when they come along til the end, youâll have loads of them. Sorry for the pacing tho :((( I also apologize in advance if there are some OOC bits that yâall might not like. Not too confident in it, but hope you all like it. I DID NOT BETA READ THIS ANYMORE BECAUSE IâM TIRED OF THE LENGTH OF IT LMAO. Anywho...
Happy DiAkko day! Enjoy?
~Shintori Khazumi
It was a normal thing, really. She had grown up with a thin chain slung around her neck, attached to another tiny metal thingy resting against the skin of her collarbone. On cold days, she would keep it in her pocket because god knows how weirdly tingly and-or painful that felt on bare skin. Sure she could have chosen to just wear it so that others could see it- actually, wasnât she going against societyâs rules when she hid it? She was, wasnât she. Heck, it surprised her now that sheâs realized it. Why hasnât she been arrested yet? This is a crime isnât it? Her mom, her dad, would they get to say their farewells once she got incarcerated-
âI can see it on your face, that youâre thinking about something totally stupid again.â
âShut up, Sucy.â
âJust saying.â Sucy shrugs, going back to working on their chemistry lab activity. âI mean, I kinda just want you to focus on what weâre doing. Unless you want me to slip in some stuff in your project there.â She grinned in that evil little way the brunette had come to know her for.
âIf I know you, which I do, youâve probably already done that.â
âAkko! I canât believe youâd accuse me of something like hurting my friends.â Sucy really couldnât sell the âfeigning shockâ act as her monotone words did little to convey emotion, and that forced gasp was probably just everyone elseâs normal manner of breathing. Which was scary, now that she thought about it. Did that mean Sucyâs normal breathing was even less obvious? Oh god, now that Akko thinks about it, she would sometimes joke in her head about how she often wondered whether or not Sucy was actually dead during sleepovers.
âI mean, come on! She sleeps like a corpse in a coffin! And she always looks so pale-â
âI knew you were thinking about something stupid again.â Once more, her thoughts were brought to a halt by that lazed, snarky voice that could only belong to her best friend who shared her mutual desire to strangle one another.
âI was just wondering if you were undead or something.â
âScrew you.â
âWish Iâd find someone to do that...â Akko muttered under her breath, to which Sucy sighed. She had heard it, and immediately knew what the Japanese was about to get hung up on. Again. Like she always did.
A hand reaching over to pat her back in consolation, but Akko felt a little worse, feeling that small, hard material lightly tapping the area along with the rest of Sucyâs hand. Sucy chuckled, sympathetically. âI know youâre constantly in a state of heat, Akko-â Or not.
âI am not, you bitch!â
Sucy could stand to ignore that. â-But really. Are you really that obsessed with finding your soulmate? Weâre all young and all that jazz that those old hags keep yapping about. You have a lot of time, you know?â She smiled a sincere smile this time, trying her best to comfort her friend. âAnd besides, even though itâs something written on official print that most people find their soulmates at sixteen, most isnât all.â
Akko felt a little better. Sucy could be an asshole, but as a best friend, she really knew what to say to Akko sometimes. Â
â-Thatâs basic English that even you can understand.â
She takes it back. She takes some of her heartfelt gratitude back. âI hate you.â
âAww, I abhor you with all of my non-existent heart as well.â Sucy smirked, swatting Akkoâs attacking hand away. âMuah~â She threw in a wink for good measure.
âUghh, oh gosh... Professor Croix!â Akko bemoaned to their supervising teacher. âCan I please use the emergency shower? And eyewash. I think Miss Manbavaran got her unholy sappiness spilled all over me.â
Croix sighed, rubbing the spot between her eyes with her thumb and index finger. Not this again. âCanât you two ever pipe down in my class?â She sighed. âPLEASE?!â
âNope.â -Was the deadpanned response.
âI now see why you guys are friends.â Croix groaned, walking over to their table. âYou little shits just wonât give me a break. And yet, youâre so behaved with Chariot.â
âHey! Sensei, cursing your students is bad!â Akko scolded, before adding, âBesides, this and that are separate matters. Prof Chariot is just sweet and so nice, you canât bear the weight of guilt of hurting her. Right?â Akko turned to Sucy who just nodded.
âShut it, Kagari. That is not a valid rea- wait... maybe it is.â
âSee?â
Her head was starting to hurt. Just why had she decided to be a teacher in place of any other job involving chemistry? Really, there were so many other things she could have done!
Just as she was about to return the verbal jabs, a gentler voice inserted itself into their conversation. âUmm... guys, professor, the other students are being distracted by your... um... exchange.â
Three pairs of eyes blinked, before two widened in apologetic shock, while the other seemed to gleam in pleasure. âSorry, Lotte.â
âSucy, please try to look even the slightest bit sorry.â
And disappointment replaced them right away.
âTsk.â
âSucy... we will be having a talk back in our room.â Akko heard that audible gulp, reaching for her friendâs hand under the table, squeezing support.
âDonât die.â She whispered.
âYou too, Akko.â
âNoooo! How? I donât even live with you two!â
Lotte was about to respond that Akko always stayed over, anyway, but the frantic screams of their teacher took the words far away from her mind.
âAkko! Akko! Your solution is bubbling! Wait, thatâs not supposed to do that-â Croixâs concern was justified as in a matter of a split second, everyone in their immediate circle was covered in some bright pink substance. âSHOWER, EMERGENCY SHOWER-â
âW-we wonât all fit, Professor!â Lotte had begun tearing up, wondering if she was about to die from whatever toxic chemical their beloved dunce must have mixed in. Maybe if she prayed to something somewhere out there, the spirits of nature would take hers and maybe she could live as some kind of forest sprite in some alternate magical world, and crap, she was becoming delusional.
âHoho~ What a nice outcome~.â
âManbavaran!â
âRelaaaax, I switched out all of Akkoâs components for some of my stuff. It was a precaution.â She smiled, unbelievably innocent-looking. â...and maybe added a little surprise.â
âSu.CY!â Akko lunged forward before being stopped mid-air, caught by the collar.
âAkko. Sucy. Iâll see you in the office later.â
â...your office?â They seemed amazingly unfazed. Theyâd probably been so used to being there that they must see it as a lounge of sorts. But no, Croix wasnât going to be defeated by teenage rascals that were the cause of her hair prematurely turning white. No.
âNope.â
âTh-then, Finneranâs?â They werenât completely scared of the aforementioned teacher. She just gave them such an earful, sometimes theyâd joke to Lotte about needing hearing aids at some point.
âNo.â Croixâs smile grew despicably wide and dark. âHolbrookeâs.â
Lotte sighed in sympathy. Well, sheâd expected this development sooner or later. âIâll wait for you by the usual bench.â
//-//-//-//-//
A week of suspension. One week off school, no school or class-related updates allowed from classmates, and only check-ins and work drops from teachers. That was... surprisingly light after all the trouble theyâd accumulated over the past first month of the semester. Or maybe it was because it was just the start of the school year that the headmistress really wanted as little to go wrong as possible. Preferably nothing would go wrong. Or it could also be the fact that they were in their senior year, and the teachers really wanted all their students to graduate.
But you could never tell with a group as rowdy as the âwitchesâ of Luna Nova International Institute. They were rightly labeled as such with the cursed terrors they had inflicted, every incident theyâ d caused all over the school premises and beyond.
If it wasnât Akko and Sucy, it was Jasminka somehow being able to sneak in and out of the classroom and buy out the entire snack section of the cafeteria, and making it back to class without anyone noticing. With her size, it was some kind of scary magic trick. If it wasnât that either, then it was Constanze constantly installing who-knowâs-what in the schoolsâ computers. It it wasnât her, then it was Amanda and Hannah pulling at hairs, or cutting at each otherâs necks, then the next thing you know theyâre either making out in public, or making out in public... with Barbara. There was also Lotte when she was in her wild states of fangirling after a new Night Fall release. People tended to keep a safe distance from her during those times. (Sheâd once shaken a girl unconscious out of her sheer excitement at the mention of, âOh, I read the latest release tooâ.)
Never a dull day with them.
Scarily so.
Holbrooke had smiled at them kindly as always, but there was just a little something else behind it that felt like Akko and Sucy were about to die on the spot.
âPlease. I beg of you. Your first two years, we tried to overlook all your mischief as it did not pose any threat to the masses, only towards you and your friend group... well... physical harm or threat, at least. I donât know how many people are psychologically scarred because of you.â She had said that, but they didnât know if it was a joke, a serious statement, or both.
After being given twenty blank pages to write their usual apologies on- they shared a laugh, thinking back on when Amanda got fifty-, the pair made their merry way to the bench just by the school gate where Lotte sat, chatting alongside and excited Barbara, a Hannah with a fond smile directed at her life-time partner, and Amanda who was carrying both their bags for them, waving goodbye to Constanze and Jasminka who looked like they were just leaving.
âAww, didnât get to catch my little friend.â Akko pouted, wanting to hug Conz as she always did. She was so cute. And soft. Like a plush. Always calming Akko down.
âSheâs gonna shoot one of her tiny lazers at you again. Those actually burn.â Amanda reminded, laughing as she remembered what Lotte told her about why they were late. âAnd I heard you two got some quality time with the big woman upstairs?â Her grin widened. âHow many?â
âTwenty.â They responded in synch, hands aching from the memory.
âHeh... not bad. Doesnât beat my record though.â She cackled, slinging an arm over Hannahâs shoulder, Akko not missing the glint on her left ring finger. How nice.
âDonât egg them on, idiot.â Hannah sighed, peeling the limb off her. âAnd you all got nothing on these two.â She pointed a thumb to the still excitedly conversing pair. âThey wrote a fucking novel for their apology. Literally. But the teachers were so tired of reading that they werenât made to write apology notes anymore.â
âHey! Cleaning the bathrooms arenât the best either!â Barbara, now done with her talk with Lotte, turned to pinch the gingerâs arm.
âI mean, we all have cleaned them at some point.â
âTrue, true.â The group nodded in consensus.
â...â
âThis is not a very good fact.â Barbara pointed out, and they all laughed, the ones seated slowly getting up, everyone ready to go home.
As they exited the gate, they all waved their goodbyes, Akko and her two best friends heading one way, and Amanda and her girls the other. Just as the sun was setting at that hour in the afternoon, red eyes caught the reflected glimmer of light against the three bands on each girlâs ring finger. Those same eyes traveled to similar hoops donned by the pair walking quietly in front of her, hands brushing by one another.
Really. She was happy all her friends had found their destined ones. Some partners may look to be as mismatched as Sucy and Lotte, and some cases were as rare as the three-way between the snarky British girls and their American idiot, but... the system had worked some magic in perfectly matching people, it seemed. They all seemed happy with who they had.
Akko didnât know if this was some kind of spiritual occurrence like fate or the likes, or if this was just one ginormous scientific experiment on billions of guinea pigs across the globe, but... Akko wanted in on it too.
Placing a hand over where her heart was, she felt for the metal against her chest, clutching it through her uniform blouse.
Just when would her âsoulmateâ come?
//-//-//-//-//
Their first stop, as per usual, was the small apartment complex that Lotte and Sucy lived in. When their parents had discovered that these children had found the one meant for them, they were more than willing to help the girls move in together, and get used to a life-long companionship. They trusted them as they were both capable and level-headed, and Akko was so happy that her friends were happy. She always was.
Lotte invited her in. As always. And Akko shouldâve accepted like she always did as well, but somehow, today... she just didnât feel like it. So she made a random excuse, something believable enough, like how her parents had asked her to make dinner because theyâd be home late, and the Fin just had to let her go, even if she felt something was off, and that the brunette might just be lying.
There had been a time when Lotte and Sucy had just gotten together that Akko seemed to distance herself from her best friends. They soon found out it was out of her concern that she might be intruding on their relationship, or bothering them, taking away from the time the pair could spend alone together as a couple. Obviously, they had never seen Akko as a nuisance, and were saddened she would think of such things.
With a talk, reassurances, and clarifications in place, their bond as friends became ever stronger, and more trusting.
But Akko still wanted to be considerate. Out of love.
...and maybe a little envy that made her want to distance herself from the sight of people with fulfilled partnerships.
Maybe she was just a sore, lonely loser who couldnât truly be happy for her friends.
Who knows.
After jogging the rest of the way home, a simple five-minute distance away from the apartments, she reached that familiar wooden gate, the name plate âKagariâ shiny and clean, like her mother liked it. Pushing the swinging portion open, she walked up the driveway, smiling at her share little garden with her Mama. Looks like the vegetables were growing up healthy. Maybe she could try some new dishes out and have her friends give her feedback. The usual agenda.
âIâm home!â She called out in the foyer, shoes slipping off and set neatly to the side. A habit strongly instilled in her since childhood. âMama?â The scents of vegetables and meat, and was that... cookies! Her mom was baking cookies! âMama!â
Padding down the hall and entering the open living room, she found her father splayed out, snoring on the couch with a newspaper covering his face. Giggling to herself, she continued her way into the kitchen, spotting the one sheâd been looking for, ear buds in and swaying to some music only she could hear. Akko smiled. Her mom was so youthful, she was such a girl. With her bright pink apron and bunny slippers, and impeccable manners and home skills.
âMa~ma!â She called, hugging her motherâs waist from behind.
The older woman yelped, spatula flying into the air, but with Akko smoothly catching it and licking off some of the sauce on it. She tried not to look into those disproving eyes, and simply released her mother and went to wash the utensil.
âAkko...â
âI said I was home! You didnât hear me, mama. This is revenge.â She grinned cheekily, her mother sighing before a fond smile played on her lips.
âFine, fine. But just this once, okay?â
âHai~â Akko gave a mock salute, enjoying this moment with her mother as the her co-brunette rolled her eyes fondly. Akko walked up to her, kissed her cheek, and attempted to âappeaseâ her mother by offering her exemplary culinary services- or so her dad had once claimed. âLet me help you out?â
Unable to keep up the annoyed act longer, her mother slipped into giggles, turning to gather her daughter into her arms and pepper kisses all over her hair. âThank you, baby. Please chop me up some of the veggies in the bag by the sink.â
âRoger!â
And they shared another laugh at the voice coming from the other room, screaming a sleepy, âWHOâS ROGER?! ANOTHER BOY-â
The usual always felt so good.
//-//-//-//-//
Dinner had been fairly uneventful. Her cousin- the relation fairly distant- who currently lived with them wasnât home still, just like always. She knew he was always busy at school, and with the little business her father had him manage, so that was a normal thing as well. She had ended up just confessing to her parents what sheâd done in school this time, in hopes that her being honest instead of them finding out via a phone call from school first would ease the inevitable punishment awaiting her.
It... kind of helped. Kind of.
Her father had laughed so hard, clearly amused at her and Sucyâs antics. Her mother sighed deeply, not knowing if she should even still be disappointed anymore. Akko and school accidents and incidents werenât uncommon at all, after all. It wasnât a surprise. Really, the biggest school-related surprise theyâd gotten was the fact that Akko wanted to take a science-related course instead of an arts one. They knew it had always been her dream to be a performer. So why was she taking that when Luna Nova offered the Arts as well. It was something they would forever wonder about.
Akko was usually so open and honest with them in just about everything, but this was one thing she would never clear up with them. And they could never understand why. There was definitely a deep reason behind it. But why did she have the need to keep it to herself? They worried, but they also believed in her, that she would tell them if she needed to. She was that kind of child.
They hoped.
Kissing her parents good night, She walked away from the kitchen banter of who should wash the dishes between the two adults, and trudged up the wooden stairs to her room. Akko had offered, but they said she should just rest up. She looked like she had a long day. Besides, she had a week to help out at home. Akko shivered at the thought of being worked like a mule. That was a joke of course, but her mama could be so Spartan sometimes.
Her door clicked close, and she immediately found herself face-first in the soft covers of the lower bunk of her bed, lights of the room still down. Originally, the Kagariâs had been expecting twins because of how large Akkoâs motherâs stomach had been. Apparently, they were simply blessed with a very healthy baby. (She was a fair bit taller than her mother, and had a good height for a Japanese woman). As Akko grew up, however, she insisted to keep the bunk as it seemed like it could be useful to turn into her own little fort. Plus, sleepovers wouldnât be much of a problem in terms of space.
Flipping onto her back, she stared at the glow-in-the-dark stars pasted onto the top of her ceiling. It was fairly high up, with this side of the house being designed a little differently, the roof of Akkoâs room forming a dome. This was at her request as a child after attending one of Professor Chariotâs public lectures on stars as a child. Akko had since then been hooked to them, the fading glow of the stickers allowing her sights of the constellations sheâd painstakingly formed, sticking each point one by one with the help of her dad and a ladder.
She had been saving up lately to buy one of those small, portable planetarium projectors. She didnât want to outright ask her parents for one, and she had taken a few secret part-time jobs to make up for the amount she needed. Little by little, she was getting close to her goal. Sheâd have one someday. One day.
Her eyes felt heavy all of a sudden, an arm moving to rest over them as her breathing slowed, thoughts drifting to stars and constellations, and myths, and tales, and fate, and...
Her world shut down.
//-//-//-//-//
âAtsuko. Atsuko, get up. Akko. Wake up, bloody hell, you sleep like a log!â
âMmrrnghmm... eh?â Blinking her eyes open, she spotted a young man, brown hair just like hers, dressed in a cardigan and slacks, looking ready to go out on some date, or the like, or maybe he had more business as usual. âAndrew.â
âAkko.â He responded dryly. âItâs eight in the morning. I know itâs the weekend, but really, sleeping in isnât a good habit.â
Rolling over to shield her eyes from the intrusive sunlight and man, she waved him away sloppily, ready to get back to rest, body feeling heavy for some reason.
âAkko!â
âYou really do take my momâs place when she isnât around, Andrew.â Akko complained, sitting up, if only to get Andrew to pipe down. âAlright, I get it.â She rubbed the sleep away from her eyes, stretching her body out and taking in a breath of fresh air. âBut if youâre here, Iâm figuring my parents are out?â
She received a nod, followed by an explanation. âThey said they had a picnic date planned for the whole day.â
Akko pouted. âAww, and they didnât think to take me along? How mean~â
âThey tried to wake you up, believe me.â Andrew scoffed. âYou could sleep through world war two without problem, however.â
âGee, thanks.â
âYouâre welcome.â
âGet out, please.â
âLater.â
âIâm asking nicely.â Akko whined, slipping out of her bed, realizing she hadnât changed out of her uniform last night.
âAfter I tell you about our plans for today.â
A well-shaped brow raised in suspicion at the words. âOur plans?â Akko voiced. âWhat do you mean. âour plansâ? I donât have any plans of spending time with you today, as far as my knowledge tells me.â
âNot that you have mu-â Andrew was about to throw in the usual insulting jab, playful banter, but refrained. He did actually need Akko to go with him.
âHmm?â The lack of a biting response didnât sit quite well with Akko. Something was up with her cousin, and she was sure that she was about to find out just what.
There was an awkward pause in the air before the older boy cleared his throat; maybe he should begin with getting on her good side. âL-lovely weather weâre having today.â
âJust tell me what you want from me and leave.â
âWeâre going to the mall, please help me.â
âWhy?â
â...â
âWhy?â Akko pressed. If Andrew wasnât going to give her a good enough explanation, she wasnât going to move a single inch.
â...Itâs Deniseâs birthday soon.â He confessed, and Akko actually backed off.
âOh.â She immediately understood what Andrew wanted without him having to expound on his earlier statement. Really, he could be such an adorable dork sometimes, especially when it came to Denise.
Denise was Andrewâs set partner. She was a kind person, gentle, lady-like, intelligent, mild-mannered, but strong-willed. She was great. Too good for Andrew, Akko would tease at times. But really, they made such a good match. She liked Denise; she was sweet to Akko, exchanged treats with her, as well as tutored her from time to time, being in the same school and all. She also kept Andrew busy and out of Akkoâs hair, so she was perfect! So if not for Andrewâs sake, Akko should at least do something nice for her friend.
âGive me half an hour. Iâll be ready by then.â
Andrew breathed a sigh of relief, offering Akko a grateful smile. âThank you. Iâll see myself out then.â
âFinally!â
With a childish sticking of the tongue out at each other, a habitual thing they had formed, Andrew had closed the door to Akkoâs bedroom, not forgetting to lock it behind him for privacyâs sake. Akko was thankful.
Instead of getting up, however, and preparing for the day with Andrew out of the room, Akko lay back down on the soft mattress, eyes trained to the top of the room again. As she saw her little clusters of stars and constellations, red ribbons connecting points one to the other, always to be linked even if they were far apart, never to be broken, her regular intrusive thoughts had begun making their way to the forefront of her mind again.
Fated people... soulmates, huh. Werenât those terms just glorified ways of saying everyone was in some kind of arranged marriage they could never get out of? Wouldnât there be at least one person averse to all this? Maybe? But why... did all the people sheâs known, whoâve met their match-why did they all seem content?
Feeling for that familiar metal piece under her clothing, she pulled it out by the chain, observing it as it glinted against the morning light. Her finger traced over the engraving on the outside, admiring the workmanship, but frowning at the words.
She thought back on it all. How all this destined person stuff all started out, as the history books told them. Before the records of History ever existed, they said that the leaders of the ancient world had gathered together, seeing the âsorrow of the worldâ, and came to a decision of what to to do to make the world better in that regard. They decided that âLOVEâ was the answer, as cheesy as it sounded. And so a system was put into place that would overcome barriers and seas, both literal and figurative, of difference, and bring to mankind the meaning of true joy- Akko always found it incredibly sappy and cringey when it was laid out like that.
Like any system, there were the finer details that made it all work one way or the other. It is said that people are born issued with a ring to be worn on their person on all times. It was a mystery as well, how one could never seem to outgrow the ring. Like it was made to grow alongside you. It was made out of metal, however, and it made things all the more perplexing. Who knows what magic goes on behind all of this? No one knows who makes the rings, or who created this system; nor does anyone know who assigns partners to each other. All theyâve known are the facts that the rings were created, containing words that served to be a hint to who your soulmate is supposedly. When you meet that person, youâd just know. The words, theyâd just make sense. It didnât matter if it never did all your life. One day, everything would just click, apparently. That was how the words were chosen, they said. Then these rings would be distributed to countries and the government would be responsible in ensuring that they got to their rightful owners.
Honestly, this whole thing sounded like some deep cult-ish shit, and Akko was quite shocked that she- along with possibly millions, or billions- had never questioned it before. After all, it was the usual; as always, the norm. It could be something of a mysterious world movement that no one knew of, but with it simply claiming to have the goal of âbringing happiness to all citizensâ, people hardly seemed to mind where it took them.
Akko remembered the first time she ever found it weird. She was in the fourth grade, and that day, they had learned the importance of the words on the rings. âHints to finding your one, true love, their teacher had claimed, trying to rouse excitement from the students at the prospect of soulmates.
And while every other little girl squealed in joy and giddiness upon reading the words written on their rings, Akko had a look of distaste on her face at the sight of her words, immediately hiding the item from possibly prying eyes of her classmates who had already began to compare words with others.
She hated it. She had then ran home to tell her mother about it.
âMooommm! Mom!â
âAkko? Whatâs wrong? Youâre all sweaty and you still have your outdoor boots on-â
âWhy does my word suck so much?â
âHuh?â The woman was lost for words, confounded by a simple question.
âWhy does it suck so much? My word! Â I mean...â Holding her ring out for her Mama to see, Akko continued on her rant. âWhat the heck does cabbage even mean?! IS HE A FARMER?! DOES MY SOULMATE LIKE CABBAGE THAT MUCH?!â
âAh... well...â
âWhy couldnât it be something cool like yours and dads. âEyes like rubiesâ, and âRider from the northâ just sounds so badass and romantic! And then thereâs me with CABBAGE. Â Sure, the ring is pretty and all, but... WHAT IS CABBAGE?!â
âI... donât know, sweetheart.â
Akko had felt so frustrated with her word, that she wanted to cry. âMy soulmate sucks!â
Thinking back on those times, she sure was such a child. It wasnât her soulmateâs fault that the government or whatever authority or higher power decided to describe him or her that way. If anything, her partner is a victim of slander. Even Sucy had it better with the description. Akko chuckled mirthlessly. What are those people thinking. Ah, her head was starting to hurt from overthinking all this.
ââBring happiness to all citizensâ, my ass. With a hint as weird and cryptic as this, how am I supposed to be âhappyâ like everyone else?â Akko sighed once more, unclasping the chain from behind her neck, and taking her ring off, hanging it over her eyes, watching it dangle in the air, the elegant cursive of âcabbageâ pissing her off a little more than it should.
Along with the ring came a handbook of sorts. Akkoâs sat atop her bedside drawer. In it were more rules, guidelines, and information to be taken note of, but they could only be read at certain ages, sections sealed off by some kind of technology that only unlocked come oneâs birthday. An example of a rule was related to how to wear the ring. It didnât seem to be a heavily imposed rule as Akko had done away with it all her life. It was that rings should be worn on your right ring finger so long as you hadnât found your assigned partner, moving it to your left once you have. Akko had been ashamed of her word and had always carried it around her neck, hidden underneath her clothes. Her mother had scolded her for it in the past, but she didnât care. She didnât want to get teased by the other children for having such a strange hint. She had believed that it would give her a hard time.
And it still did. With it being so vague and odd, there was no way this hint made much sense to her, at all. Would she ever find the person her whole being was linked to for a lifetime?
Besides the rules came soulmate-related explanation for the rings and words. An instance of this would be that the meaning behind the words would only be revealed to them once they entered fourth grade. She never understood the significance of that. Why couldnât one just read through everything and understand it all at once? Well, not that it mattered. She would soon be turning eighteen, and opening a section that made her feel just the slightest bit bitter.
[What to do if you havenât found your soulmate yet.]
Sucy may have told her that each person had their own time, and that she was still young, and had plenty of years to go searching. But when everyone else around you had already found theirs by the ânormalâ designated time, youâd start to feel quite isolated and lonely, right? She was already different from the rest with the weird-ass word she was stuck with, and now she wasnât even close to being on the right track to finding the person it was pointing to.
It was frustrating.
Three knocks and a voice followed suit. âAkko? Are you ready? Itâs been about twenty-five minutes, but I didnât hear any noise coming from your room. Are you actually okay?â
Right. Andrew.
âIâm fine! Sorry, I got lost in thought. Be right out! Maybe in fifteen! My bad, really.â
âItâs fine, Iâm the one requesting a favor, after all!â Andrew responded through the wood, and Akko felt his presence leave her immediate area.
Hopping off her bed and grabbing her towel, she made her way to the bathroom. Maybe a cold shower would help her stop thinking about all of this for a few. She really should stop questioning the whole system of practically the whole world. It wasnât good for her sanity.
Turning on the shower and soaking herself, her assumption of her endangered mental health was confirmed.
âAH, I FORGOT TO STRIP!â
//-//-//-//-//
âYou sure took your sweet time getting ready.â Andrew commented, locking the door behind them and tossing the keys into his pocket as they got to walking. Opening the gate for Akko with a bow, they shared a laugh, going on their merry way down the street.
As often as they got on one anotherâs nerves, they undeniably enjoyed each otherâs company. It was nice. Akko liked it to an extent. The conversation was fun, the exchanges never dull, it was time spent well. What she didnât like about hanging around with Andrew were all the stares and glares she got from people around. Much like now.
It wouldâve been great if it ended with just observation, but there was always that one brave (or maybe stupid) soul who would come up to the pair to ask if they were an item. The brunette pair would then proceed to do their usual schtick of jumping a meter away from each other, and pretending to gag whilst glaring.
âNO WAY. WITH HER/HIM?!â
And despite the denial, instead of feeling joy at the availability of Andrew- Akko assumed it was him that people always wanted to confirm about anyway- there was no delight, only some form of fear. The creeped-out kind maybe?
Continuing their walk, Akko slapped Andrewâs shoulder, hard. The boy looked like he could bite her.
âUgh... itâs already such a pain in school when we have joint functions and people mistake us for a couple. I was hoping it was obvious we were related.â
Andrew scoffed at the statement. âIâm sorry, but Iâm actually quite pleased I donât look to be related to your ugly face.â
He deserved the stronger smack, Akko would say.
âAKKO! That hurt!â
âYou know what else hurts? The fact that people canât seem to get it in their heads that not every guy and girl walking next to each other are partners. Damn, and I used to think it was a good thing that I could use you to get out of awkward confession situations.â Sometimes people did that, despite the entire âdestined partnerâ situation. âWeird times.â
âYou actually get confessed to? Hahaha, why? Guys must need glasses.â
The tall lad flinched at the held up fist. âIâm kidding. Youâre actually growing up to be quite pretty Akko.â
Eyes wide one second, then smiling sweetly the next, a chill ran up Andrewâs spine at Akkoâs reaction... that suddenly morphed into disgust, a hand pinching his side. âEw, I kinda liked you better when you werenât so gross and cheesy.â
âAh- h-hurts, that, Akko, that stings, ouch! Let go! I was trying to be nice!â Andrew retaliated with his own pinch to Akkoâs slightly rounded cheeks. âLet go!â
âYou lwet gfho!â They released their holds at the same time, rubbing the sore spots on their bodies. âWhy were you suddenly being all weird?â
â...ate...etter...man...â
âWhat was that?â Akko couldnât understand any of Andrewâs incoherent mumbling.
â...My soulmate told me I should really try to be a better gentleman... to you...â
âHaha, sheâs right about that! Youâre such a dick!â
âOi!â
Before Andrew could physically get back at her, Akko made a dash to the mall entrance across the street right as the street light turned green for pedestrians. âLoser has to buy the other ice-cream!â
âThatâs cheating!â
âMaybe!â
//-//-//-//-//
âSee? Youâre all out of energy now because of how rowdy you were earlier today.â Andrew scolded, hands on his hips, a paper bag with the chosen gift in it, slung around one wrist.
âYâthink so? This is usually... hah... nothing... to me.â Akko panted, plopping down on one metal chair by the ice-cream bar. âWeird.â
Andrew sighed, deciding to cater to Akkoâs needs since she was nice enough to help him out today. âIâll get you a water. What flavor of ice-cream would you like?â
âMatcha-Vanilla~â Akko drawled, now slumped against the table, liking the cool surface against her somehow, heated cheek. âGo forth, my peasant!â
âNoted, your eminence.â
âMm, mm!â Akko nodded in approval, arms going under her head to cushion it. Her eyes were getting heavy. Did all that walking around really make her that tired? Her head was starting to hurt, and her body still felt heavy. Just what-
//-//-//-//-//
âAkko. Akko! Atsuko!â
â...Andrew?â
âTsk. Should I call an ambulance?â
âAndrew...â
âExcuse me, are you in need of any assistance for your friend? My family owns a hospital nearby and we could take her there.â
Akko felt Andrewâs hand supporting her suddenly tense. âGeh- Cavendish...â
âMy, Sir Hanbridge. Date?â
âCousin.â
âHmm...â
Oh? Someone... A lady? What a nice voice. Somehow it was comforting to Akko. It felt warm, it felt kind, it felt gentle. For a voice to feel something rather than sound like something, Akko must really be out of it.
Hands.
Careful, tender.
âA-An... wha-â
âAkko! Donât talk. Just rest.â
âAkko, huh. Is that her name? Miss Akko?â
âmmrm?â
âYouâll be alright.â
That voice. Akko wanted to believe it. Who...
Soft. Soft. Akko was leaning against something soft.
âYouââll be alright.â Was said again.
âAkko, youâll be alright.â Ah, Andrew. But somehow, Akko would rather hear those words from the other person currently holding her in her arms. She felt bad. Not just in the sick kind of way. What was she supposed to do again? Oh right, she was helping Andrew. Where was she? Was she causing trouble? Ah, what if she was bothering this sweet-smelling, comfortable-feeling, gentle-sounding lady.
âHey... you...â Hmm, her voice wasnât quite working like it should. Maybe she should try to express herself again. Clearing her terribly scratchy and dry throat, she managed to croak out a single word.
âSo...rry...â
âItâs alright.â
//-//-//-//-//
White ceiling, the absence of sticker-stars. Dim lighting, the low thrum of the air conditioner unit, and the occasional sound of something dripping. The scent of antiseptic.
Her right hand felt uncomfortable, like something was stuck in it. She lifted it up, seeing a slim tube running out of some secure, clear tape.
âYouâre in the hospital, idiot.â
âNever a quiet moment with you, Andrew.â
A sigh. âI was worried.â
â...Mm. Iâm sorry...â
âYou didnât tell me you were feeling unwell.â
âI wasnât.â
âDonât lie.â
âCouldnât tell.â
âAkko!â
âSay, Andrew. Who was with you earlier?â
âDonât change the subject, Akko- huh?â Reprimanding words died on the boyâs lips as the question sunk in. âAhhh.â Recollections of earlier events came in. âThe daughter of the owner of this place.â He threw in a few other details he thought Akko would want to know. âHigh-class lady. This place does too.â He decided to humor her queries, knowing she didnât want to argue with Andrew anymore. He didnât either, not when she was like this. A time and place for everything.
âHmm...â Akko hummed, sitting upright and looking out the window. Andrew panicked, stepping forward, but Akko shooed her cousin away. âShe sounded nice.â Akko commented. âWas she pretty?â Somehow her mind wanted to know. Her heart was clenching in some unknown need to know more about a voice she barely registered, a touch she fleetingly felt.
âYou could say that. I guess to most, sheâd be considered gorgeous?â Andrew mused. âWeird hair though.â Was added as an afterthought.
âHeh...â
âCurious?â He didnât say it in a teasing town, only genuinely inquisitive at Akkoâs not-so-subtle expression of interest in someone she barely even met.
âNo? Not really.â She responded, everything becoming still. âCan I go home?â
âOnce your tests come in.â
âHow long have I been here?â
âOvernight.â
âMama and dad?â
âDropped by while you were asleep. Uncle was sobbing buckets, but Auntie dragged him out because they both had work. They paid off the bill and said theyâll see you when we all get home.â
Akko sighed, dropping back against her pillows. âI canât believe Iâve caused so much trouble in a span of, what, three days?â Covering her face with one of the pillows, she screamed lightly into it, the muffled sound concerning Andrew. âI have to apologize a lot to them. Have to make it up to them... I even had them spend a lot of money on -ow! Andrew!â
Retracting the hand he used to chop her head, Andrew huffed. âStop that. Your parents love you, youâre not a bother. Shut it. If you really want to make it up to them, get some rest right now as we wait, and get better soon. I suggest you make some dinner if youâre well enough.â He knew she often had insecurities, and tried her best not to bother people so much. Heâd observed it from her relationship with her two best friends. She really was just a ball of energy that she couldnât help but cause scenes, though. People hardly minded, anyway. If only she realized.
âDuly noted.â
Andrew nodded, walking over to the bed and sitting at the edge, whipping his head about to glare at the  owner of the leg that had just attempted to kick him off.
âYouâre making the foam awkwardly sink. Itâs uncomfortable. Youâre inconveniencing the patientâs recovery.â Akko grinned, trying to get rid of the stuffy atmosphere that had settled by stirring up another banter session.
âCould you settle down for once?â
âI mean, I could.â
âUnbelievable.â He chuckled. âFine, fine, Iâll give you your space. Iâm going to the store. Want anything?â He offered, since the ice-cream he initially was supposed to treat her to as thanks was long since forgone on some cemented floor, probably already cleaned up by the workers of the shop.
âOrange juice.â
âCoffee? Understood.â
âAss.â
âThe good ass genes run in our family.â
âOh my gosh, you did not just say that.â Akko guffawed, waving her hands, eyes sparkling with pride at the crude joke of her prim and proper, perfect-gentleman cousin.
âI did not just say that.â Andrew smirked. âNow rest before your fever comes back from all that tension you release. Good thing youâre off school for a while.â
âDonât remind me.â
âIâll be back in fifteen.â
âHai~â
âDonât disappear.â
â...â
âAKKO!â
âI wonât, I wonât!â She giggled, dropping the tease. âNow scram!â
âI swear to god...â
And with that, she was alone again.
Great. More time alone with her thoughts. And what better way to occupy that blank space that was her mind then to fill it with all her doubts, insecurities, and questionings.
One particular question stood out at that moment.
âWho... was the owner of that voice...â Along with that single question came a wave of interconnected ones that Akko could not understand. Why was there this sudden desire to just... know.
What did she look like? How tall was she? Was she fair-skinned? Tanned? Long hair? Short hair? Curled or not? How old was she? Were they the same age? Was she an older lady? Was she maybe in the same grade? From the haze that was her memories, it seemed Andrew knew her? An acquaintance? Why couldnât he give Akko more details besides insulting that womanâs hair? Where was she from? She had an accent. British? Scottish? Did she live around these parts? Why...
Why was Akko so curious?
Knock. Knock. Knock.
âAndrew, you know you can just, like... come in, right? You know I canât even get up to open the door for yoouuu...huuu...â With the door swinging open to reveal the person on the otherside, Akko could only hope that she did not appear to be the stupid-looking gay dance she most probably was. â-...huuu...who...?â
âBeautiful.â
âI apologize for the intrusion, but I just wanted to check on you. Oh, you may not even know me, Iâm sorry. I should probably introduce myself, isnât that right? Oh blood hell, Andrew, telling me to check on someone I barely know because you want to go off somewhere...â Akko heard her mutter that last bit under her breath before watching this gorgeous lady seemingly recover her senses. â-Ah, apologies, um... sorry! Wow, I suppose Iâm saying that too much, arenât I? We didnât exactly âmeetâ earlier, but... I donât know, I was probably meddling in issues not concerning me, but... I couldnât help but want to help you out. It was an automatic reaction as someone who has wanted to be a healthcare professional all my life, and I was so used to it, and then it just so happened to be Andrew and... well, you and- and I-â Fair skin, lithe, fairly tall frame, a melodic voice, gorgeous blue eyes hidden by long lashes and ...strange hair, due to an immediate bow upon spotting the confused gaze of the patient; this person was...
âYouâre rambling, miss.â
Said Miss bristled, expression flustered and eyes darting about in her embarrassment. âS-sorry.â
Akko panicked at the saddened apology. She just made a pretty girl sad! âN-no! I-â Their eyes met and then it was one of the most magical and equally painful moments of Akkoâs life, she concluded. âHi.â
âHello.â The girl nodded back in acknowledgement.
âAkko.â She blurted out. Then just like that she witnessed a world wonder contained in such a small room, in just one girl. There was just something in the way her eyes lit up that pleased Akko very much. It was as though she was the catalyst for such a breath-taking phenomena. Blue stars, passionately burning, brightly so, like her favorite celestial bodies. â...Rigel...â She murmured.
âHuh?â
âOh? Huh? Eh, um...â Arms flapping about, she tried to graps control of the conversation, not knowing where it was going anymore. âUh, my... name! My name is Akko! Ahaha, sorry âbout that.â --She scratched the back of her head sheepishly with the hand not attached to the IV tube.
âMiss Akko... Rigel?â She tilted her head, and by gods that was the cutest thing Akko had ever seen in her life. But Wait-
âOh! No, nono... no hahaha.â She laughed, waving her hands in front of her, realizing that what she said had been mistaken as her name.
âI... My name is Kagari Atsuko, but you can call me Akko.â She clumsily reintroduced herself.
âAnd Rigel...?â
âIs a blue star that is put to shame when in comparison to your ethereal ocean eyes-â
âOh, itâs just... just a star I like, hahaha...ha..ha.â She needed to save this dying interaction, fast. She didnât want this goddess of a lady to walk away just yet. Who was she? Why was Akko panicking so badly? Why was her heart running miles per second? Where did these confusing feelings stirring from her chest come from? Could this just be... Was this girl... Was she... could she be who Akko thought she was? She didnât even know her name yet, but the way she made her feel, it was like some universal, natural phenomena that could only make sense in the context of... that. Who was she? Who was she? Who-
âDiana.â
Diana, apparently.
âDiana.â She tested, the name unfamiliar, but incredibly welcome and sliding off her tongue so naturally, and with ease. Like she was meant to know such a name all her life. âNice to meet you.â
She patted herself on the back for a good greeting, with good manners, even happier when she received a soft smile in return.
âThe pleasure is all mine.â
âNo, no, the pleasure is mine, I mean... pleasure, Iâm... feels good to meet you, I mean, because you saved me and all, from what I can understand, so pleasure, good feels- no- what am i saying?! Iâm sorry, Diana, er miss? Diana? Miss Diana?â
âDiana is fine.â
Diana was indeed SO fine.
âTh-thank you for being so beautiful.â
âWhat?â
âTha-thanks for saving me, I mean, helping Andrew out in saving me, but that means you saved me too, so I just thought I should properly thank you and all that and express gratitude because thatâs the right thing to do, amiright? And of course Iâm right so thank you, Diana, thanks for everything, and the hospital and the room and all, oh but you donât own it, but your family does, so does that mean you own it-â
âAkko.â
âYes?!â
âYouâre rambling, Akko.â
Akko was a burning hot mess of foolishness, but if it prompted such heavenly giggles from such an angel- no a goddess, alongside her name that sounded divine coming from soft pink lips- that she was absolutely not staring at- then she hardly minded at all.
And then there was silence.
âSo...â
âSo...â
Diana awkwardly shuffled on her spot, the tip of her shoe tapping against the floor impatiently, hand fiddling with a button on her shirt. It took so much willpower for Akko not to direct her eyes there.
âI guess Iâll get going.â
âA-already?â
âEh?â
âEh?â
âAh... I mean... if you have... stuff to do, I guess... I... shouldnât be stopping you or anything of the sort, right?â
Akko didnât like that frown, however miniscule it was, on Dianaâs face.
âI... Iâm a little busy, I apologize.â She spoke softly. Akkoâs heart clenched, and she cursed her insensitive ways. âBut... I can come back tomorrow? If youâd like?â -And it leaped up in joy just as quick. More time! More Diana! More getting to know her!
âY-Yes! Of course! Iâll wait here for you! Pinky swear! I- woah...â The world was suddenly spinning, and Akko had to lean back for a moment, vision swimming in color.
âAkko!â
Said girl was beginning to get addicted to the feeling of Dianaâs presence by her side. That was not necessarily a good or bad thing. She couldnât get attached to her, not when she knew nothing about her. She couldnât... be acknowledging these feelings blossoming out of nowhere without confirmation of whether or not this person was meant to be hers, and she was meant to be with as well. But she was addicting, Diana. A strong drug. Just one whiff and she was high on her existence.
âGeez, you should be resting. Iâm sorry for bothering you, and keeping you up this long.â
Akko heard none of those words. Akko was curious. So Akko just had to check. Hands weakly grasping Dianaâs cooler ones, fingers roamed, feeling around until they touched even colder metal... on Dianaâs... left... hand.
âAkko?â The concern was palpable in her voice, Akkoâs senses blurring the world out as her hands dropped to her side.
Frustrating.
She somehow hoped what sheâd been experiencing these past few minutes were the signs of her finding her soulmate, but it seemed as though she may have been wrong. Maybe it was simply infatuation, or a shameless lust overtaking her in her weakened state.
It shouldnât be this frustrating.
It shouldnât be this painful.
She shouldnât have been so impatient and jumped to subconscious conclusions.
Diana had already found her soulmate. Just like everyone else.
Everyone but Akko.
//-//-//-//-//
When she came to, it was dark. She felt much better than she had yesterday, and earlier on today. Turning to her right, she saw Andrew seated on a chair, back facing her as he was conversing with someone.
âI wonder what got into that girl? Her new friend seemed worried.â That voice...
âMama.â
âYou mean Diana?â
Akko flinched at the name.
âIs that her name? My, she was so cute. If you werenât already matched to someone, Andrew, I think youâd look good together.â Akko felt a twinge in her chest, only slightly soothed by the sound of Andrew choking on something, his drink maybe. Tea? Coffee?
âIâd rather not be involved with her like that.â Andrew responded after composing himself.
âEehh-â
Akko couldnât listen any longer. The pain of everything was just starting to come back. She just wanted to get away. Away from this place that kept reminding her of her chance encounter. She just wanted to go home. She just wanted to hug her mama.
âMa...ma...â Her voice warbled. âMama...â She tried, louder. Somehow her voice was so weak, the thought of it not being able to reach the person she trusted the most in the world, hurt. âMa... ma... mama! Mamaaa...â Slowly, she regained her voice, cracked and unsteady. And finally she was heard. âMama!â
âAkko!â Before Akko could even blink again, the woman was at her side, a hand brushing bangs away to clear her warm forehead, a refreshing kiss planted there. âAkko, my baby.â
âM-mama... Mamaaa...â She moaned out, engulfing the woman in her tight hold, sinking into a familiar scent. âMama...â
âYes, Yes. Iâm here. Iâm here, Akko.â She cooed, hands combing through chocoloate-colored tresses.
âMama.â
âYes?â
âI wanna go home.â
âEh? But you arenât okay yet-â
âPlease. Let me go home...â
She felt her mother pull back. She couldnât face the eyes seeking hers. âAkko? Whatâs wrong, sweetheart? Youâre not feeling well, and yet you want to go home before you get better. Is something the matter?â Akko couldnât lie to those.
But she could try.
âI just think Iâll be able to rest better at home. My... my fever isnât that bad.â
âBut you were just crying out for me...â
âI was just... feeling lonely. Please, Mama. Letâs go home.â She couldnât say it was because she didnât want to meet a certain lady, weird blonde hair and enchanting blue stars never leaving her memory. âPlease...â Because more than the pain inflicted by her sickness, she couldnât stand the squeezing of her heart, its labored pounding more burdensome than the throbbing in her head. âPlease, mama.â
âAkko...â
âDonât be such a selfish brat.âAndrew scolded, eyes burning into the Akkoâs skin. âDidnât you just say you didnât want to cause anyone trouble?â
Akko deflated in her motherâs embrace, and the elder boy sighed. He really hated seriously hurting Akko, especially emotionally. âBut... We can leave first thing in the morning tomorrow, if you prove to be alright.â He turned the other way, hiding his expression from the girl. âSo just get better.â
âAndrew...â
âGet better soon.â
//-//-//-//-//
It was against institutional rules to be running about in the building at any given time. Crowded or cleared, the halls were not made for such dangerous sport. Workers constantly made their way through these corridors; some pushing wide carts carrying planned food and beverage for every patient in the hospital; some nurses walked along with important, and sometimes painstakingly prepared medicine and treatments for patients that Diana threatened to compromise should she bump into them. In other areas she could risk bumping into one of the sanitary maintenance people, infectious waste at the risk of being spilled all over.
And Diana grew aware of all these things, surrounded by them from a tender age. Yet at this moment, she was in complete disregard for them, her footsteps rushed and padding softly against a marbled floor. Her eyes scanned every plaque above each door she passed, counting off the numbers, and reading the letters, her trip on autopilot.
One more corner, just the end of that corner. If she rounded that, then walked past three more rooms- She was feeling a regretful that she couldnât come by earlier, the colors of the afternoon sky telling her just how close she was cutting it to the end of visiting hours. Curse all the school-transfer procedures she had to sit through. They didnât need to take that long, did they? But she had made a promise of sorts. She had promised her new... friend, Akko that sheâd come by and see her. She must not keep her waiting. She didnât quite understand what it was that made her so happy about the prospect that the other girl actually wanted to see her- Diana assumed as such with how she was acting yesterday. Really... it was amazing.
Diana herself couldnât deny that she saw something different in Akko, a substance far beyond what others could offer her that suddenly shifted the usual motions of her world upon meeting this girl. All her life, so many people came along trying to woo her, claiming that she was the one defined by their flimsy phrases that never moved her heart. âBeautiful lassâ, âdoctorâs daughterâ, titles among other things. She had even found out a few faked rings that had been promptly reported to authorities for the grave sin committed. Thus, Diana could trust no words written on silly little rings; only the one written on her own, worn about her left ring finger.
She hadnât found her soulmate, no. And maybe this was against the universal rules of whatever matchmaking system had engulfed society, but Diana did not want to be caught in a trap of a forever she could not escape unless she was absolutely sure that this was it. Maybe it would be unfair to her soulmate; maybe it would throw them off; maybe they wouldnât realize right away; but if there was one thing Diana believed in that was rooted in this entire system, it was that if you met the one meant for you, you would know.
Her mother told her so. And Diana trusted her motherâs words above all other words.
One more door, one more plaque. Diana readied a hand to knock against closed-...open? The door was... open. Did Akko have visiting doctors? They sometimes left doors open for quick checks to save time during rounds. But no, that did not seem to be the case. She was surprised to see one of the cleaning personnel of the hospital folding up the sheets of the bed, passing it to his companion before they changed the covers.
Approaching an elderly male of the pair currently clearing the room out of any trash possibly left behind, Diana respectfully inquired, âUm sir? Where is the occupant of this room?â.
âHmm? Ah! Young Miss, what are you doing here? Oh, were you perhaps the friend of the little girl staying here recently?â
âYou... could say that.â Diana muttered, unsure.
âOh, then she must have just forgotten to tell, you ey? Already left, yâsee. The little miss, along with her mother and some fine lookinâ gentleman. Do you think that could be âer soulmate? Ah~ young, concerned love.â
Diana tasted an inexplicable bitterness in her mouth, heart squeezing. âY-young man?â
âMm-mm! Handsome fella, looked kinda familiar, but maybe Iâm just getting it on in years.â
That... couldnât be, right? While Diana wasnât one to be guided purely by feeling, priding in her rationality, she just knew that that couldnât be. After all... Akko was the only one sheâd ever felt this strongly for in the lifetime sheâs lived so far. Sheâd swear on her familyâs motto of âaffectionâ that sheâd only offer her fullest romances to the one the universe had destined for her, corny as that may sound.
She just knew it. She just knew it was Akko.
So who-
Andrew.
She suddenly chuckled. Of course. Who else could that young chap accompanying Akko be? He was the one who came with Diana to the hospital, he was the one who had told her go take that first visit. So of course, logically, without a doubt, the man that Akko should have been with was Andrew. Of course.
And there was nothing to worry about, soulmate-wise. Diana knew Andrew already had someone. Sheâd met up with them constantly at banquets. There was no obstacle, no other person for Akko. Right?
Akko... Akko who wasnât here. In this room. Gloom encompassed her heart as she stared at the room dimming bit-by-bit as the staff turned off the lights. They told her that they should get leaving, and Diana nodded, informing them sheâd just do one last look over the room for any possible missed items, then sheâd lock the room herself, to which the workers reluctantly agreed, unable to go against the ownerâs daughter. Well, she was known to be a good kid, so nothing should be wrong with that.
Diana, now left alone, remained stood by the doorway that served as the only light source to the room for a few more seconds. It wasnât like constantly looking into it would magically make the one she was seeking appear, huh? With a deep exhale, she closed the door behind her, frown tugging at the edges of her mouth.
âYou said youâd wait for me.â
//-//-//-//-//
Scritch. Scratch. A line, then two. A squiggle, a letter. A bubble from brew-
...huh?
âArenât you supposed to be helping me with my homework?â Akko frowns at her companion currently mixing questionable substances on her floor-table in her room. âThat is why youâre here, right?â
âCourse not. What fun would that be?â
âShouldâve known better than to invite you over.â Akko muttered under her breath, getting back to the unending pile of chemistry homework she was sure Croix assigned to them out of spite. âAnd how did you finish this all, anyway?â
âIâm smart like that.â
âYouâre mean like that. Why canât you help me out at least?â
âI believe that learning for yourself is the best teacher.â Sucy replied, emotionless as always.
âNo you donât.â
âTrue.â
âHah...â Akko gave up. Forget getting help from Sucy. That wasnât a possible feat, now that she thought about it clearly. The girl was just bored out of her mind so she easily agreed to come over. Akko was sure of it. Without Lotte in the house, and on their fifth and final schoolday away, Sucy- who had slowly gotten used to the concept of companionship- must have just wanted someone around, regardless of whether there was flowing conversation or not.
âAkko?â Andrewâs voice came from behind the door. Finally! A distraction! Wait, wasnât Akko avoiding Andrew lately? Why was she avoiding him lately? âAkko?â
âCome in!â
â...huh? Youâre actually letting me in?â The muffled voice asked, door now ajar. âHey Akko, so... about what Iâve been telling you all week...â He began, looking nervous, and Akko had to wonder why. âSo my friend, Diana, she-â
Ah. Right.
Thatâs why.
Quick on her feet, Akko gunned for the door, pushing it forcefully, and locking Andrew out, the boyâs yells the only things making it through the barrier.
âAkko! Akko! OH, COME ON! Weâve been at this the whole week!â
âAnd I told you this whole week, I donât wanna hear it!!!â Akko hollered back.
âBut WHY?!â Andrewâs exasperation oozed out of his voice. âJust give me a reason! Give her a reason! From what Iâve heard, you seemed to have hit it off pretty well?â
âSays who?â Akko asked.
âDiana!â Andrew didnât like yelling, but Akko was being so hard-headed after he mentioned his blonde acquaintance. âJust what happened between you two?â
âNothing! Nothing happened!!!â
âThen why does she keep bugging me about you, and why are you avoiding her like the plague?!â
...Why was Akko avoiding Diana? Was there any reason to? Theyâd met just the other day, had the most awkward conversation in her life to date, and then Akko felt something. Something she shouldnât have, and let her hopes up, only to drop them lower than where they already were; and none of that was Dianaâs fault. If anything, Diana could have proven to be another great friend sheâd make along the way in life, yâknow?
Akko didnât know. She didnât know what was going on; within herself, within her mind and her heart, in that one moment frozen in time between her and Diana, in a silent hospital room.
âI donât know, Andrew. I donât.â
Sucyâs potion stopped brewing.
//-//-//-//-//
âMY MADLADS! I MISSED YOU UGLY FACES!â
âUgh, Amanda.â
âOi!â
Akko grinned, messing up Amandaâs fiery mane in comfort from being rejected by Sucy. âMissed you too, Amanda.â A high-five rang out through the school lobby, the two energetic troublemakers missing that burning feeling on their palms.
âBut man, you guys sure missed a lot. Who knew a week without yâall could turn the school upside-down.â Amanda whistled, their small group of eight finally assembling complete as Jasminka and Constanze walked up.
The small girl gave Akko this look that she completely understood, giving the girl a big thumbs up, and receiving a smile and nod. Jasna held out a lollipop which Akko gratefully accepted, and they all made their way to the corridors.
Suddenly registering what Amanda said a few moments ago, Akkoâs interest was piqued. âWhat did you mean by turning the school upside-down?â She wondered just how much a school could change for her who was out for a week.
âOh, well, maybe I was exaggerating a tiny bit.â Amanda chuckled, scratching her cheek. âJust that, some new girl came along and now everyone is all head over heels for her somehow.â Amanda fake-cried, sniffling up some. âShe even stole my babes! Along with all my popularity!!!â
That earned her two smacks to the head from two certain British girls. âWe already told you, she was our childhood friend! Of course weâre inclined to keep her company and show her around!â They defended, scoffing. âBesides, you didnât mind ogling her at all the other day, huh? You should feel grateful we let you in our dorm the other day.â
âB-babies...â
âOof. You brought that on yourself, hot stuff.â Sucy grinned, wickedly. âBut now Iâm curious. If she could even catch Amandaâs eyes then...â
âTotal hottie.â Jasminka commented through a mouthful of chips. âEveryone can vouch for that.â
âWoah, even Jas...â Akko laughed lightly. âAlrighty, letâs meet this new kid in town then! Where is she and whatâs her name?â Just as they were about to pass the headmistressâ office and head for their homeroom, a hand tugged at the brunetteâs collar, along with Sucyâs.
âWait a second, you two. Youâre supposed to report to Professor Holbrooke first, right?â Lotte, ever the dutiful friend, reminded.
âAh dang, right.â Akko scratched her cheek, throwing Sucy a beckoning glance. âGuess itâs better to just get it over with.â She shrugged.
âWhatever.â
âSee you all in class!â Akko waved goodbye, smiling as Lotte left a peck on her pale friendâs cheek, enjoying her rarely flustered state. Her heart warmed when Lotte gave her one two, patting the blondeâs hair fondly. âThanks, Lotte.â
âAnytime.â
With their friends out of sight, they faced the suddenly intimidating doors.
âNow or never.â
//-//-//-//-//
âIâm glad we got excuse slips for being tardy to class. I do not want more yelling. Though I guess Prof Chariot wouldnât do that, huh.â
âWhat did you say? I think Iâve gone deaf.â Sucy complained, rubbing her pained ears. âFinneran yaps like a bitch.â
âOI! Donât let her hear you say that!â
âDonât worry, Iâm not up for more âcounseling and healthy remindersâ.â Sucy mockingly mimicked the strict teacher. âChrist, that woman must be senile.â
âShhh, weâre almost at the classroom.â Akko hushed her bestfriend, door coming into view. She could hear a Professor Chariots distinct voice posing a question to the class, and there was a quiet that Akko knew was due to no one knowing the answer, not very uncommon.
But then there was one. A voice very uncommon, but somehow familiar, attracting, pulling her in. With her curiosity getting the better of her, Akko slid the door open, planning to softly sneak into class, forgetting that the roomâs backdoor had a tendency to-
SCRREEEEECCHHHH
...that.
âH-hi? S-sorry weâre late?â Akko tried, dozens of eyes now resting on them, most surprised. But one pair stood out the most. âShe looks good in our uniform.â Akkoâs jaw hung slack, a fight or flight response hesitantly building up within her. Her legs tensed, ready to bolt or stay rooted depending on the next move the one she was staring at made. â...Rigel...â
â...Akko.â
Then a hand reached out, and she was gone. Like the wind.
//-//-//-//-//
It had been a difficult week. Amanda was definitely right when she said things had been turned upside-down. Akko felt like she was too. So Hannah and Barbaraâs childhood, hottie, transfer student, best friend just so happened to be Diana. Diana, Akko met her in the hospital and became enraptured with, Diana.
This posed a problem, along with unbearable tension within their group. Akko would always want to run away, and Diana would always seek after her. After awhile, the blonde grew weary, and just distanced herself, her childhood bestfriends obviously sticking by her side. Amanda had girlfriends to attend to. And Constanze and Jas usually followed Amanda. So now, it was just Sucy, Lotte, and little olâ Akko. Like old times.
âAkko, just why are you avoiding Miss Cavendish? How do you know her?â Lotte asked on their way home. âPlease? Tell us? I canât stand to not spend time with the other girls anymore just because you two are at unknown odds. Youâre a kind person, Akko. And Miss Cavendish is as well, from how Iâve gotten to know her lately.â
âLotte, you... you wouldnât get it.â Akko sighed. She was tired of entertaining Diana-related questions. All the âwhy donât you two get alongâ interrogations wearing her down thin: with Andrew at home, and Hannah and Barbara indirectly hounding her in school at every chance theyâd get, trying to fish out for an answer that Diana couldnât give to them herself, apparently. Not that Akko blamed her. She must just be as confused as everyone else with regards to Akkoâs averse reactions.
âM-maybe I could try?â Akko missed the shift in the Finâs tone, irritation over the week threatening to make her lose self-control and lash out. But no, she couldnât do that. Not too sweet Lotte. She still had her senses intact.
âNo, Iâm sure you wouldnât.â She firmly stated through gritted teeth, not looking at Lotte as she replied, so unlike her.
âI-I-â
âAkko, Lotte just wants to understand you.â Sucy stepped in, feeling that change in the air that she didnât quite fancy. âWhy canât you just tell us? I know I may not act like it a lot, but arenât we your best friends?â Akko held back a hiss behind pearly whites. She didnât want to be a bad person. She had to be considerate of peopleâs feelings. Like always. Everyone was just curious. They were all just confused... but then Sucy had to just say, âDonât you trust us?â
And Akko couldnât hear that.
âI trust you! I do!â She whipped her head about, pointing a finger to them one-by one. âBut you guys, you wouldnât get it because you have your soulmate by your side constantly, okay?!â
âAkko...â Lotteâs eyes widened.
âI... Iâve been waiting a lot, and I know you said Iâm being impatient. It doesnât have to be now.â Akko huffed. âBut do you know how it feels to look at all of you, all happy with someone who can love you completely? Understand you completely? I donât have that! Not yet! And sure, somewhere down the future road, I might.... and itâs stupid of me, but Iâm a lot more jealous and selfish than I look, okay? Everyone has nice words, and has met the person those words described perfectly, at the designated time, normally, as the book says.â
âAkko, the book doesnât completely control everything-â
âAnd here I am, always subconsciously looking around, because maybe my person is out there too, yâknow? But how the heck do I know?â A hand reached for the chain on her neck, ripping it out of her shirt so hard, it broke, the ring flying onto the ground. âStupid! Stupid chain! Stupid Ring! Stupid words! Akko marched the few steps to the item, bending and snatching it off the ground, hand going in too hard, too fast that she scraped her knuckles badly in the process, the area quickly leaking red. âSh- damn it, stupid- gaahhh!â
âA-Akko.â
Lotte stepped back, retracting the hand that had been reaching out for the heated Japanese girl, stomping at the ground. This... wasnât an Akko she knew. How many years of pent up frustration was going into this session?
âYou guys,â Her eyes were scary, sharp and menacing. Sucy jumped in front of Lotte at the sight of Akkoâs bloodied knuckles coming their way at eye-level. But then it stopped. âYou havenât seen it, right? My words.â
They couldnât even react.
âCabbage.â Akko spat. âGoddamn cabbage. How am I supposed to know what that fucking means. How are you guys supposed to understand when... I canât either... these words... myself... why Iâm so impatient... what Iâm feeling... Why... I thought it couldâve been Diana, but...â
â...but what, Akko?â Lotte hated how scared she sounded, seeing Akko flinch, knowing her friend noticed her fear. She knew how afraid of hurting her friends Akko was. This was all just a shock. Thatâs all. âWhatâs... whatâs with Diana, Akko? Diana and you?â She posed the earlier question for the last time. Was Akko hinting at what she thought it was?
âShe wears it on her left.â
//-//-//-//-//
Orange juice didnât taste as good when you drank it alone on the stairwell leading to the roof. It would have been better had she been able to stand under the cloudy mid-day sun, the refreshing breeze taking her mind off things. But then it just had to rain, hard, and that ruined all her plans of clearing her mind via the healing powers of nature. Maybe she shouldnât have told Sucy and Lotte to stay away and give her space. Having no one to talk to really sucked. More so than the strange word on her stupid government-issued ring.
âAhhh, should I just go and apologize to everyone?â She muttered, squeezing the juicebox she thought sheâd emptied, but did not know had bits of liquid left. The purely concentrated citrus then spilled onto her exposed, skinned knuckles, making her hiss in pain. âTsk, stupid. Grrr!â
âAh-!â
âAh?â The yelp caught her attention. She was alone in this place, right? âHello?â
No response.
âAnyone there?â The only ones replying to her were the winds that howled behind the metal door that led to open roof. Those sounds were starting to sound like how sheâd imagined ghosts would in the dead of night. âHelloooo~â
Still nothing.
âMaybe it was just my imagination?â
âSTAY AWAY!â
Okay, that was NOT her imagination. That was a girl. Looking around for some kind of weapon, Akko readied herself to beat up whatever girl-harassing creep sheâd find once she rounded the bend in the stairwell. Holding up a sturdy wooden broom, she tiptoed down, steps making no sound.
On three, sheâd jump and smack the living shit out of whoever was there. One... two...
âAkko, please save me!â
And she slipped and fell in her surprise; her back was going to hurt like hell over the next few days. Alas! She must stay vigil! Save whoever this damsel in distress was- Diana... It was Diana. Diana Cavendish, as sheâd learned the girlâs name, and a few other trivial details about her, over the course of their time not together. (Akko also denies any and all claims that state that she spent a lofty amount of time observing the taller girl. She didnât know things like how she was Scottish, or how she loved horses and anything that looked like a unicorn, and that she was intelligent, and smelled like vanilla and mint.)
âIâll save you?â She managed in her ruffled state. Before she could process anything more, the girl had clung to her, both now laying on the floor; one in an utter state of bewilderment, and the other... dealing with whatever it was she got going on before Akko had found her. âUmm... Diana?â She tried, forgetting her phobia of the girl over the past few days, and rubbing her back gently to gain her attention. She was shaking like the leaves outside in the storm. Just what had happened. âDiana? Whatâs wrong? What am I saving you from?â
There were no signs of any bad guys, as far as Akko could see. She was grateful for that. She wasnât sure she could defend them in this position.
âMiss Cavendish? Heir to a billion-dollar hospital? Whatâs up?â She was trying to be nonchalant in an attempt to possibly calm the girl, and it worked somewhat, allowing her to see that beautiful face, tear-stained and all. âH-Hi.â How lame.
âAkko... the... there... it...â
âHmm?â She lent an open ear, looking around, still not seeing any signs of danger. Then a well-manicured finger came up and pointed to one of the panels of the hallwayâs windows. Akko squinted, not seeing anything. Had Diana seen some kind of floating ghost outside? Or was she seeing it inside, and Akko didnât have the sixth sense for it? Did Diana have some kind of sixth sense? âWhat exactly...â
âB...â
âBuh..?â
âBee.â She squeaked.
Akko gawked.
âBee.â
âB-bee.â
âBee?â
âBee!â
âB-â
âAkko, please just get it away! Iâm scared!â
âY-yes, maâam!â She scrambled to her feet, but not without gently seating Diana up, even if it was on the dirty corridor floor. Opening the window and grimacing as strong winds blew droplets of water into her face, Akko shooed the poor insect into natureâs claws of death. âSorry, buddy. Princess doesnât seem to like you.â Blowing it a kiss, she shut the window, wiping her face on the sleeve of her jacket.
Now... to face a larger problem... or not face it. Maybe Akko should get running again.
She should.
âWell, this was nice and all that, but I guess I should get- ouch!â Diana had caught her hand in alarm, accidentally pressing against her open, yet-to-heal wounds.
âM-my apologies!â
âItâs f-fine. Itâs okay, please let... let go.â Akko didnât like the way her heartrate spiked in Dianaâs presence. It grew even more erratic, wildly jumping every which way in her chest as her hand was held more gently, blue eyes scrutinizing the reddened skin, the heiress didnât seem to have any plans of releasing her. âDiana?â
âMay I... May I treat you? That blue sparkle was redirected from her knuckles to her own dark reds. They were so hopeful and compelling that Akko, despite thinking that avoiding Diana would kill whatever held-back, buds of feelings she hoped to dash, just couldnât help but consent, cursing the way her chest lightened, heart soaring.
She was absolutely doomed.
//-//-//-//-//
It was a quiet affair.
Torturous. No one said a word. To be fair, theyâve only had two somewhat proper conversations so far, so not knowing how to break the ice shouldnât be that odd.
But it was, and Akko couldnât take it. Diana had just finished cleaning Akkoâs wounds under the sink in the infirmary, and was now dabbing them gently with antiseptic. She was so careful, touches feather-like soft. Akko barely felt anything, much less pain. So maybe she could start with talking about that. Maybe.
âYou... Youâre hands are real nice.â
âH-huh?âAnd down fell the cottonball sheâd been holding.
âI-I mean... youâre really good at this. Tender and all that. Youâd... make a good doctor.â Akko commented off the top of her head, running out of things to say, as she always did when faced with one Diana Cavendish. âA pretty doctor. Patients would... probably feel healed just from your... face. Or something.â Smooth, Akko. Smooth. Could Diana, like... at least help her out a little by responding? âPlease say something.â Akko begged in a whisper.
âO-oh, I... thank you, Akko. Thank you for the compliment. I...â Momentarily lifting her eyes and meeting Akkoâs gaze, the blonde averted hers, a thin touch of red spreading up to her ears, not unnoticed by the injured Japanese. âI appreciate your words.â
Akko hummed, not trusting her mouth to communicate properly anymore.
âI think youâre... face is a healing balm as well.â
Akko felt herself blush as well, head tilting up so she could face the ceiling. It was one of the most brainless compliments sheâd ever heard in her life, and she knew she just said something along those lines as well. And yet it made her heart flutter like nothing else had before.
âDonât mention it and... thanks.â
//-//-//-//-//
You never know when an event becomes a catalyst for reality to undergo great changes. Their little bandaging session had returned the next day. Akko was quite clumsy with these types of things. Each time sheâd gotten hurt in an accident, sheâd always ask Lotte to do it... but today... all their friends, and even the classmates theyâd unintentionally dragged into their awkward little world, were staring in awe as Kagari Atsuko stood in front of Diana Cavendishâs desk, inviting her out to the infirmary.
âI-Iâm just having her help me with my bandages! Donât get the wrong idea!â Akko yelled as she guided Diana out, unknowingly holding her hand all the while. No one commented on it. Not even Barbara and Lotte who were exchanging curious little smiles. Something was changing. And it was a good change.
Reaching the infirmary, Akko headed straight for the sink, rinsing her knuckles under clean water while Diana gathered what she needed. Once done, they met by some chairs placed about the room and took a seat, the blonde girl looking over Akkoâs hand.
âCome tomorrow, you might not need to bandage it anymore. Just apply some ointment. I think the nurse can recommend something.â Diana stated, looking up to smile at Akko who flushed at the attention.
âO-okay. I got it.â
âGreat.â She then got to work, applying what needed to applied, and wrapping the clean white bandage after. Diana did this in her usual silence, focused. Sort of. There was one thing that had been nagging her for quite some time now, ever since she got to take a better look at Akko, now that they attended the same school. It was a  unnerving, however. It hadnât been long at all since they... âgot alongâ, and Diana didnât want to present something that might cause them to drift apart again. But it was eating at her, the need to know about it. It would determine how sheâd interact with Akko from now on. It would show her what kind of relationship she was allowed to pursue. She needed a confirmation. She braced herself. Trying shouldnât hurt. She could change the subject after testing the waters.
âAkko.â
âHmm?â Was the casual-sounding hum.
âSheâs calm. Calmer around me.â That little detail made Diana happy. So happy. This was progress. âMay I ask a question?â
There was a pause, and Diana considered backing out. It appeared as though Akko was thinking about it deeply. Before Diana could take it back, Akko responded, âSure. Ask away.â, and the heiress breathed a relieved sigh. âWhat did you wanna know?â
âWell, um... I just happened to notice that... you donât...â Diana was really hoping this wasnât a sensitive subject. Sheâd finally managed to close the gap between her and Akko. Sure it was by unconventional, and very strange means- unintentional, above all. She had just been worried about the girl upon seeing that her friend group was all gathered in the classroom except her. So Diana had gone searching, and was planning to offer to stay away from her friends for Akkoâs sake. She was glad that things turned out the way it did, though.
âDiana?â
âUm... Akko.â She finished her job, smiling at the neat covering on her.. friendâs... hand. (They were friends now, right? At the very least...)
âYes?â Akko seemed to notice the hesitation, and her instincts guided her to take hold of Dianaâs trembling hands, encouraging her to continue.
Well this was new, Diana thought. Now or never, she supposes. A deep breath, and the floodgates opened.
âI just wondered... why... donât you have a ring? Did you somehow lose it? Is that possible? But how? Wouldnât you get in trouble with... everyone, I guess? Have you found your soulmate or not? If yes then I should probably just say goodbye here and, oh but not in the way you think, you might not get what I mean, but I still want to be friends-â
âDiana.â
âYes?â
Akkoâs cheeks puffed up, trying to hold it in, but ultimately failing as she burst into giggles, instinctively tucking a stray strand of hair behind Dianaâs ear as she leaned forward to bump their foreheads together.
Ah, screw fate and itâs ways. Screw Dianaâs soulmate that existed somewhere out there. In this one moment, she just felt so at peace, and in place, sheâd deal with all the raging storms in her mind later. For now, it was just the two of them, hanging out in an infirmary, the smell of antiseptic on them, stupid words be damned.
âYouâre rambling.â
//-//-//-//-//
It had been a few weeks- maybe just shy of two months- of friendship (?) with Diana, and Akko had never felt more alive in all her years. They had even spent her birthday together! Well, everyone else was there to, but... Anyway. The afternoon the question had been dropped, she had ended up explaining to the Scot her story with the ring, leaving out the detail of what it had written on it. That was a little too embarrassing for her to share yet. Baby steps.
Sheâd never dare ask about Dianaâs ring, and she appreciated that the girl never brought up any soulmate talk that involved herself. Akko felt that it helped her cope with this one-sided love a little longer. She would no longer deny this attraction. She was so undeniably into Diana, it was crazy. She didnât understand how teenage hormones and falling in love worked, but somehow she just knew. She felt a little apologetic to her soulmate, no longer feeling the need to search for him and her, the section of, [What to do if you havenât found your soulmate yet.] remaining untouched. But well... things happen sometimes.
And sometimes, you become so much of a fool that you invite the girl you are in love with, who already has a soulmate, to your house, to your room, just so she can be the first to see that portable planetarium projector you were finally able to get your hands on for an affordable deal. You wouldnât even cry at losing months worth of saved allowance and work wages. It was all worth it, to see her entire being practically glowing in awestruck wonder as you lay on your backs on the cushioned floor, having the chance to flaunt years of star study to your crush. The impressed gazed directed at you felt so good. You could get used to this. Especially when the visage of wonder glimmering in the dear girlâs eyes was outright precious.
A Diana in awe was cute.
So much so that Akko was in awe.
âHey Diana...â
âHmm?â
âDo you believe in magic?â
What a strange thing to ask in that moment. Thatâs what Diana thought. Akko thought the same. Just what had gotten over her. Yet she still wondered, thoughts flying far off into space, just as they always did when she gazed upon the stars in the night sky- or her ceilingâs artificial one.
âWhat are you saying, Akko?â Diana chuckled, right hand reaching out to grasp Akkoâs, fingers lacing together. She felt her heart flip as it was squeezed tight, unaware of the inner turmoil Akko was enduring at the lack of presence of a ring on that hand. Their eyes remained trained to the glowing heavenly bodies above, stories of the past, of fate, and the like, written all over.
âDo you believe in other worlds, Diana?â
âWell, many studies propose that they indeed exist.â Diana responded.
âWhat about alternate universes? A completely different you out there, living a different life.â
Diana turned her head to face Akko, the brunette still facing upwards, eyes glistening with unshed tears, barely noticeable in the dim lighting; but Diana always noticed. Because it was Akko.
âDonât you think that somewhere out there... there could be another version of us; maybe a clumsy me, and a fantastic you, saving the world with strange words not understood by the rest of the world?â
âMaybe...â Diana breathed out in a whisper, oxygen effectively stolen by the tear that slipped down shapely cheeks. The moment felt so fragile, she was afraid if she made a move, it would shatter into a million pieces, never to see the light of day.
And god forbid it happen. Diana wanted to boast this tender feeling out under the brightness of the sun, for the world to witness.
âWhy do you ask?â
She listened in agony at the choked intake of air, followed by the frailest of whispers. âBecause maybe... the impossible for the Kagari Atsuko here... is possible for the Akko there.â
The heiress pondered those phrases a moment. â...Impossible, like?â Diana replied in equally hushed tones, something hopeful in her pitch.
âLike you being meant for me, and I for you.â
But Akko couldnât just say that.
âAs impossible as using magic here, maybe?â Akko laughed in a normal, in-house voice, volume not too loud, but no longer a whisper. She should just bury her illegal thoughts deep down.
âI guess so.â She deflated. What had she desired to hear anyway? âMagic does seem like an unattainable power, some unimaginable, impossible concept.â Maybe she should get ready to leave soon. There was something heavy weighing in the atmosphere and in her heart, and she did not wish for a memory as sweet as this to turn sour due to her mood.
âYou think so?â Akkoâs steadying voice kept her rooted in place. âWhat if it isnât so impossible after all?â
âHow so?â
âWell, donât they say that when people put their minds to it, when they truly desire and wish for it with all their hearts... like how the song goes, yâknow? âWhen you wish upon a star your dreams come trueâ, or something.â
âLike the law of attraction and manifestation?â Diana supplied. âIf you think positive things, positive things will come to you. Your reality becomes better. Like that?â
âHmmm...â Akko tapped against the back of Dianaâs hand, still entwined with hers, with her index thoughtfully. âYes, but no. Kinda, but not really...? I donât know how to describe what Iâm thinking at the moment based on existing principles. Not too good at remembering. Heck, is there a quote that already exists?â
âWhy not make your own, then?â Diana proposed.
âHeh... good idea. Let me think.â
âTake your time.â Diana enjoyed the little sounds Akko made as she thought.
âOh! I got it!â
âHoh? And what would those words of wisdom be, Miss Kagari?â
âReady the papers, Miss Cavendish. Weâre about to make the headlines with this!â They both giggled at their antics. âDrum roll, please! Dugudugudugudugudugu....dan!â
Diana nuzzled into Akkoâs shoulder, enjoying all these little sound effects, the brunetteâs voice calming her gradually, lulling her to sleep.
âJust what are these magnificent words, dear Akko?â Diana was far too drowsy to notice the splash of color painted across her companions face, the shyness melting into tenderness as she felt her warmth shift closer.
âA believing heart is your magic.â
And sleep was nearly robbed of her, eyes widening in the dark, unseen by Akko as the thumb on Dianaâs free hand now brushed over the engravings on her ring. It was for sure now.
âYou really are... the one.â
//-//-//-//-//
Something was off about Diana today. Was it her hair? No, impeccably styled as always, that couldnât be it. Was it her makeup for today? No, it wasnât that either. It was still that natural looking glow that brought out her innate beauty in all the best ways possible. Â Akko continued to check off boxes on her mental list, trying to figure out just what it was that was bothering her about Dianaâs appearance today. Was it her clothes? But that was the uniform they wore daily! Did she... get any new jewelry? Hmm, she didnât seem the type to wear any at school.
Then...
Was it the ring that painfully reminded Akko that the person she might be in love with was already meant for someone else? No, that couldnât be it either. Last Akko checked, the ring was snugly fitted, definitely on... huh? The ring was... gone? No? Akko scanned Dianaâs smooth looking left hand. No it wasnât there. Not on the left, and her eyes couldnât help but guide her hopeful soul to... ah. It really wasnât on the left, but on the right.
Huh? That wasnât right.
This confused Akko. Enough to make her approach Dianaâs seat during lunch, tapping her attention away from her conversation with Lotte and Barbara.
âH-hey Diana, I have a question... â
âYes?â Said girl gave Akko her full attention. There was something different about the way she smiled at Akko today as well, it seemed. Odd. Nice. But odd.
âSo like... uh... W-Why is your... your ri-â Akko could feel droplets of sweat forming on her brow, threatening to trickled down the side of her face if she so much as twitched.
âRi?â
âWhyâs your ri- r....r-r- Right ear larger than your left?!â
Dainty hands shot up to cover her ears, blushing shocked and mortified. âWHAT?!â
Whoops, Akko messed up. âHAHA AHA.. KIDDING! Nah, I was messing with you!â The brunette forcibly laughed, patting Dianaâs back in uneasy comfort.
âAkko, that wasnât very nice.â Lotte scolded, and the said girl nodded, sighing.
âI know. Sorry guys.â She apologized properly, looking to Diana in particular. She received a gracious smile and a pat on the cheek, the skin underneath the ringed-hand warming speedily.
âItâs alright.â
That kindness allowed her to gather bits of courage to finally state her inquiry. Diana would answer her just fine, right? Akko had to when asked about the whereabouts of her ring. It was fair trade?
âI was just wondering, because I recalled you wearing your ring on your left hand until recently. But now itâs on your right. I guess you could say I was just curious?â
âEh?â
âIs that so, Diana?â Hannah questioned, eyes wide. âBut why would you move it in reverse? Now that youâve actually found- mrrrpmmphhh.â
Akko shot a puzzled glance at Hannah and Barbara, the latter clasping a hand over the gingerâs mouth.
âN-nothing. You didnât hear anything.â She covered. âYou heard nothing, are we clear?â She threatened, and Akko actually shivered.
âHoly crap, your women can get so scary, Amanda.â She mentioned to the redhead seated in front of the other girls.
She heard her release a heavy sigh before getting up from her seat and turning to face the group. âItâs because you two are such a pain, thatâs why. Just get it over with, Cavendish! Whatâs holding you back? Itâs as simple as this, see? When you have a dense mofo like Akko, you just gotta give her a little push. A literal one.â And that was the only warning they got before Diana felt soft, slightly chapped lips barely missing her own, brushing against the corner of her mouth.
Akko removed herself so fast, they all worried sheâd get whiplash. âS-s-s-s-s-sorry! Sorry Diana, I didnât- it was... AMANDA!â
âI was helping.â
âYou little...â
âRather than giving me your attention, shouldnât you talk it over with miss salad head over there?â
Akko blinked, the cogs in her mind slowly spinning, then clicked. âDid you just... insult... ah, screw you!â Akko yelled, blush burning so hot, it was hard to keep her eyes open.
Heeding Amandaâs advice nonetheless, she turned to an equally red Diana, unable to meet her eyes. Akko didnât think her face could get any hotter than it felt right now, but at the sight of Dianaâs tongue quickly swiping across her lips, Akkoâs face might as well be venus.
She should at least try to say something, right? Something comforting... or witty... or clever.
âSorry...â That would work.
âItâs alright.â
//-//-//-//-//
She stared at her invitation. Wow. Did Andrew really take her to shop for Deniseâs birthday gift months before it happened? The neat script spelling out, âYou are cordially invitedâ underneath the older womanâs name with the date of the ball kind of set her nerves on fire.
She was not one for formal events. But then Denise had been nice enough to hand it in person, looking like sheâd be willing to beg for Akko to come. Andrew stood behind her menacingly, a pressuring force looming in the room.
But really, how was she supposed to do this? Sure she had experience with the arts and dancing. She had wanted to be a performer at some point in her life before deciding on her current course, keeping the arts as a hobby. That covered her bases in terms of the ballroom dancing part. But as for etiquette and all that jazz, Akko had no clue. She was just a normal girl, living a normal life, having met amazing people, and... the love of her life.
She groaned in remembrance, pulling out a slip of paper, an extra entrance voucher. âBring a plus oneâ, Denise had said. Well... that wouldnât be a problem, Akko supposed. Maybe... She could always ask Diana.
The thought of the girl set flurries of butterflies wild in her stomach, face warming up along with her heart. She fiddled with the band situated around her left ring finger. She was still getting used to it, the metal feeling awkward in that spot. Thatâs just what she gets for never wearing it all these years. Kind of a nuisance, if she were being honest; but... at the same time... it was a reminder that...
[âSo youâre... my soulmate...â
âLooks like it.â
âDid you... know about it?â She watched fluffy hair bounce along with the bobbing of a shy girlâs head. âHow long...?â
âI had a feeling right from when we met... then confirmed it after you first showed me your planetarium.â
â...thatâs a few weeks back.â
âYouâre just so slow.â
âIâm sorry.â
âItâs alright. It really is now.â]
âAAAAHHHH!!â Akko hollered, ridding herself of the embarrassed tension in her body. âHnnnggghhh...â Holding in all her squeals, she flew onto her bed, hugging a pillow tight and rolling about. Maybe she should call Diana right now, if only to hear her voice. Oh, and she should just pop the question while sheâs at it, the invitation.
A few rings, one, two, three fo-
[âHello?â]
âDid you know I love your voice? It was the first thing I fell in love with, ever since you saved me from the clutches of death.â She couldnât hold back the adoration she felt for the Englishwoman any longer.
[âOh my god, Akko. Did you really just call me so you could be such a sap?â] Â Her giggle was always the best, Akko reveled.
âNo~, or kind of yes, but not entirely.â
[âIs that so?â] Diana teased through the line.
âDonât believe me?â
[âOf course I do! After all... itâs my magic.â]
âWhoâs the sap now.â
[âI learned only from the best.â]
âAmanda?â
[âYOU, you idiot!â] Akko laughed at the reaction, squealing inwardly in delight. Dianaâs laughter alongside hers died down, the phone going silent for a bit. And then, [âYouâre the best.â].
Akko just couldnât handle it.
âI love you.â
[âI love you too, sweetheart.â]
âI love you, I love you, I love you.â
[âI love you more.â]
âI love you! I love you! I love you!â
[âI love you more than anything in this world.â]
Akko was not crying.
âI love you... be my plus one?â
[â...â]
[âAlways.â]
//-//-//-//-//
âMy baby... so grown up now and looking all gorgeous.â Mrs. Kagari wiped a tear from her eye, admiring her daughter in a russet-toned gown, sleeveless, with a low dip in the back, fitting, and at the same time, flowing off her frame and onto the floor. It was simple, yet elegant. It matched well with Akkoâs hair; usual bangs side-swept, signature ponytail gone, her long brown hair slightly curled and hanging off on one shoulder, exposing the other. All this topped with a little make-up, and even Andrew commended this picture of Akko that could pass as part of high society.
âShall we?â He held out an arm for her to take, door open with a car waiting right outside. Akkoâs father sobbed loudly, holding onto his wife for dear life.
âM-Mama! MY BABY! MY BABY IS BEING TAKEN AWAY BY SOME RICH YOUNG BRAT WHO JUST LOOKS GOOD, AND IS A LITTLE SMART, AND OWNS A HOSPITAL.â
âWell, donât those sound like amazing specs.â Akkoâs mama laughed, consoling the poor man. âYou sound like a father sending his daughter off to meet her groom.â
âI AM.â
âBut Diana-chan is so cute, though?â
âMan or woman, whoever takes my baby away from me and ends up hurting her... they will never see the light of the afterlife.â
Diana felt a chill run up her spine as she waited in the car.
âOh, hush you. Youâre overreacting.â
âAM I?!â
âByebye, papa. Iâll be home soon. Love you~ Love you more, Mama!â
âAh- bye, my darling daughter, my baby, my sun, light of my world, my angel!â
âYou can stop embarrassing her now, darling.â
//-//-//-//-//
âAkko, donât be so stiff.â Diana whispered into the girlâs ear, a hand caressing the small of her back to ease away the nerves. âYouâll be fine. Just think of it as any old party.â
âE-e-e-easy for you t-to say. You g-grew up with th-this.â Akko retorted, a hand with some champagne shakily approaching her lips.
âReally, youâre too high-strung.â The blonde sighed, pointing to Akkoâs best friends. âLook at Lotte and Sucy, they look normal.â
Akko glared at her best friends who seemed to be enjoying themselves without a worry in the world. Oh, golly, what a treat. Maybe she shouldnât have offered their extra tickets to them so she wouldnât feel as bitter.
âHey.â A flick was sent to her forehead. âNo mean thoughts.â
âI wasnât-â
âDi.A. NAAAA~â Here came a wild Denise, flying through the air to hug an alarmed Diana, barely catching her. It would appear as thought they were good friends, and Denise, not knowing anything about the relationship between her two dear bosom buddies, had sent them each an invitation with the hopes of bringing a plus one to introduce to her (so she could tease them about it), all the while, being kept in the dark that their plus one just so happened to be each other.
Which also explained the extra tickets that had gone to Lotte and Sucy. Akko was afraid it would be rude to just hand them away, but Diana reassured her it would be just fine. They both knew how kind-hearted and open-minded Denise was anyway.
âM-miss Walsh... please let me breathe.â
âDiana~ Itâs Denise!â
âD-Denise... please... my airways...â
With greetings out of the way (Akko being squeezed to death as well, to be fair), the announcement were made, and the party commenced, music playing as the floor opened for the dances.
...
Akko swore she was a good dancer. Really! She was the ace of their studio. She could dance almost anything after learning it over the course of a few weeks at most, and so few days at the very least. So she couldnât understand just how sheâd suddenly acquired two left feet, constantly, and clumsily stepping on poor Dianaâs feet.
One step. âSorry.â
âItâs alright.â
Another miss. âSorry.â
âItâs alright.â
âS-sorry!â
â...â
âOh my gosh, I really am sorry!â
âI-itâs quite alright...â
â...â
âWanna get some fresh air?â
âPleasured.â
//-//-//-//-//
The Walshâs family gardens were certainly award winning, Akko admired. As someone with a hobby in that field, this was a dream come true, to see such stellar workmanship. With flowers oâer the earth, and stars up above, the moon reflecting ripples into a still, small lake just a few yards down, it was the picture of beauty.
Yet nothing could compare to Diana by her side. Akko admired the way the womanâs gown clung to her curves in all the right places, how midnight blue reminded her of the skies they were under, and the dear stars in the heiress eyes sparkled ever brighter. How the earrings that dangled sparkling silver matched Akkoâs own, only in gold, how her hair was fixed to the side as well, a portion of her bangs tucked neatly behind her ear, held back by a pin Akko had gotten her recently.
Akko was transfixed, as though she were under a witchâs spell. A very gorgeous, kind-hearted, hardworking, and sincere witch. A woman she loved with every fiber of her being, with the entirety of her heart.
She watched the moonlight caress ivory skin, glistening under its kind rays. Akko wanted to do so as well. Touch it, and know she was real and not just a figment of her imagination.
âI love you.â She murmured, reaching forward, arms wrapped around a slim waist, lips pressing against a bare shoulder. âI love you.â
Diana hummed, hands resting over Akkoâs latched on to her abdomen. âDance with me, Love.â She beckoned, leading them to sway under the night sky, the crickets and the breeze playing them a song of romance solely for their rapture.
The moon as their only witness, they vowed silent words, moving along the area, spinning, swaying, dancing, laughing, smiling, crying.
Akko never felt as lucky as she did in this moment. She was beyond fortunate. This moment sheâd never forget, a memory never to be destroyed all her life, reminding her that she was blessed.
Blessed, and still a little foolish.
âI still donât get it, you know. Why âcabbageâ?â
Diana laughed into the tranquil night. Slapping Akkoâs bare arm in fondness. âDid you really just ask that? Now of all times? With a romantic mood set up like this?â She shook her head in disbelief. âYou are amazing, Kagari Atsuko. I love you to death, really I do... but are you seriously still hung over that?â She inquired, spinning her fated partner about, bringing her back in close. âDoes it have to make sense? Isnât it enough to know that youâre meant to be mine, and Iâm forever yours?â
Akko returned that tender smile, leaning up to place a kiss against Dianaâs throat. âWell, yeah, I guess; but... like... doesnât that defeat the ringsâ purpose, then?â
âDoes it matter?â
â...It doesnât. Not anymore. Not when youâre by my side, because thatâs all that matters.â
âGreat answer.â
âDiana?â
âHmmm? What is it now?â Diana asked, amused that the peaceful mood didnât look like it would settle back down anytime soon.
âFor ruining the moment.... sorry.â All Akkoâs laughing refuted that statement. Diana knew they both didnât regret it one bit. Not at all. So with a smile only meant for her world nestled in her arms, leaning down and closing the gap bit-by-bit, what else could Diana reply with except,
â...Itâs alright.â
And they saw stars.
//-//-//-//-//
This... was an unexpected development.
â...Wanna come over?â
âIâd love to.â
Cold, soaked and dropped off by the Cavendishâs service car, they made their way up the drive way, Akko fumbling for her house keys in the wee hours of the morning.
âSorry, I really didnât expect it to rain when I invited you out.â
âItâs fine, it wasnât something within our control at all. The night looked perfectly clear, too.â
Flipping on the lights by the threshold, Akko guided Diana in, drenched shoes flying off, but immediately retrieved and set to the side to drip properly. Theyâd have to clean and dry those tomorrow better, but for now, a bath of warmth was in order.
Akko had insisted Diana take one first, but ever the gentlewoman, Diana did not move an inch until she was absolutely certain Akko would be alright. Her strongest argument stood to be, âJust who was it that I had to take to the hospital upon our first encounter.â, and Akko could only pout, begrudgingly accepting her defeat and warming herself a bath, but not without leaving Diana a towel and a temporary change of clothes so she wouldnât get chills.
As Akko tagged Diana with a kiss to the lips, switching places after drawing the girl a fresh warm bath, she made her way to the kitchen, deciding to make them some vegetable soup to warm them up from the inside. Would Diana like that too?
Choosing and gathering her ingredients, she began prepping, chopping up everything as her water in the pot was brought to a boil.
It didnât take her long at all to finish. By the time the food was ready, Diana was back downstairs, clad in one of Akkoâs oversized shirts and pajama bottoms. It did strange things to Akkoâs dear heart. On Dianaâs part, just the sight of her future wife (she was a woman with a vision for tomorrow) preparing her a meal, fresh from a bath, in their own little world... How could she not fall deeper in love? So in love that she could just kiss her!
And she did just that.
Walking up to the shorter girl, Diana coaxed her into warm arms, a hand making its way into brunette strands, entangling them around her fingers, ring shining amidst them. This was bliss. This was everything to her.
This was everything to Akko. Everything sheâd hoped for and wanted, and even more.
âI love you.â
âI love you.â
Soft. A little salty, maybe the soupâs seasoning. Warm and gentle, yet pressured and emotional. Tenderly passionate, and passionately tender, their lips danced a song that theyâd forever remember.
And as they sat down to eat, seated in front of each other, they motioned for cheers with their chopsticks, a leafy green clipped between one pair.
And thatâs when Akko realized that it all made perfect sense.
The rings werenât wrong, and the words would always be right.
âAh...
Cabbage.â
~end.
A/N: Can you believe it? All that, just so I could say in the end, âCabbageâ. Honestly, Akko is so slow. Somehow Iâm not quite satisfied with this, and maybe I shouldâve gone with a different approach or piece, or simply edited my original plan to fit safely within the guidelines, but... Idk. Maybe Iâm as much of a fool as Akko, that way. Was it worth the thousands of bothersome words to read? Haha. Feedback is appreciated, as always. Hope you enjoyed.

(Human AU Reed AU) Would Primrosepaw feel like Mistyfoot is replacing her with Reedpaw if she lives with Blackclaw? And dies Mistyfoot become Mistystar in this au? How are the kids birthdays celebrated? Are they themed parties? Do Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight get together in this AU? Does Jaypaw go to a school for the blind?
nah, if anything, she'd feel like featherpaw was replacing her. prim is an adult by the time reedpaw is born -- i haven't decided how old she is, but she's old enough to play mariokart before stonefur and leopardfur have moved back to the house, and when silverstream is pregnant, so probably four or five years older, making her like, twenty years old when the triplets are born.
(you start to see misty related timing issues w reedpaw, i hope? there are a lot of aging problems that happen when you transition from cats to humans, unfortunately.)
but featherpaw? adopted daughter featherpaw? literally adopted daughter who mistyfoot put everything she had into protecting and then caring for featherpaw? tigerstar constantly devalued her life to prim featherpaw?
yeah, they're not going to get along.
but at the same time...prim isn't sure if she cares. she's got a lot to sort through, but one thing is her absolutely shredded relationship with her mother. they were forcibly separated by tigerstar. both of her brothers died in a car accident, she was pretty sick and barely pulled through (in the actual au she dies) -- she was really close with mistyfoot, and tigerstar hates that.
he hates a lot of shit but that especially.
aaaand you remember he's separating mistyfoot and featherpaw not because of anything to do with who their parents are, but rather, beliefs/brothers stuff, and he's been trying to weaken the parent-child bond, so he's incentivized to break prim and mistyfoot's relationship rather than punish primrosepaw as well.
so uh. yeah. things are...well. they're Better for her, in some ways. she's...not a single child in the compound escapes abuse. it's inherently emotionally abusive, but physical abuse is still rampant. that said, there's a massive gap in severity. like, absolutely insane.
there's all sorts of things here, we're getting into like. what tigerstar does shit rn. but. y'know. tigerstar is going to make sure she has well-fitting, nice clothes, so he can turn around and compare her to featherpaw. repeat ad nausuem with basically all the shit featherpaw suffers through.
(well, not all of it. at least not at first. but also like. esp wrt physical abuse it's kind of hard for tigerstar, decider of punishments, to say, "ah yes it's mistyfoot's fault.")
so. yeah. she's basically conditioned to hate mistyfoot. sorry babes.
and she's...not sure! she has no goddamn idea how she feels! it's frustrating to know mistyfoot is pouring all this love into featherpaw, but at the same time, prim is twenty and old enough to start to untangle like. mistyfoot didn't really have a choice. they never saw each other! tigerstar literally had mistyfoot locked in a room, she had no way of getting to primrosepaw in any unmonitored circumstance, and mistyfoot was being conditioned that any action that displeases tigerstar (e.g., trying to talk to prim) isn't just going to be taken out on her, but also featherpaw. or in this case, the threat of it being taken out on prim.
so she's in therapy. she's starting to establish that like. hm. perhaps it was not mistyfoot's fault that featherpaw didn't have appropriate clothing, because she was, again, locked in a room with no choices.
she also has shit to sort out with her father like, "why were you okay with this?" and "what if it had been me instead of featherpaw?" and "why didn't we leave?"
(oh and on featherpaw's end, she has the same view on prim that she does on tawnypelt: another person who abused her. she does NOT want to share mistyfoot with prim any more than she'd want to share her with tawyneplt. no, that's not how this works, but featherpaw's exclusive positive source of social interaction has been, for five-six years, mistyfoot, so we can forgive her for having no idea how relationships work.)
anyway, on to the other questions:
* * *
mistyfoot doesn't in the human version because there's never a scenario where she would. she's not involved in activism like leafstar
(if you forgot about leafstar she's in puerto rico with her husband billystorm and possibly her wife echosong; haven't decided. echosong runs a food bank.)
and she's not involved in politics. so it doesn't really come up. i thought about it but it just doesn't make sense, since the household that comprised the bulk of riverclan disbands after the cult. no one really wants anything to do with that. leopardstar keeps the property, but...
* * *
okay, so they celebrate family/presents over three days, rotating who goes first, and then all three kids have a party on the weekend.
no themes, because that's expensive and again three kids to work around.
when they start getting older and want sleepovers, then they have to break them up. there's not enough space in the house for that, xd. but at that point there's less drama about who goes first, etc., so it's a lot more chill.
they're not a super...like they're not very extravagant in gift giving or anything, as a family. there's not really a reason for it, but like. they, more than most, are aware of the value of time and love. so y'know.
most bday presents are just for fun, too.
* * *
dk;lfj brambleclaw is like an older brother to squilf and leaf. or an uncle. something in-between. so no, no romance between them. (and even if that weren't true, he's fifteen years older than her, so it wouldn't be until she was in her 30s or so that it would be reasonable for them to date.)
she starts dating hawkpaw in high school, and they meet crowfoot and smokefang in college. not sure if/how firefern gets involved bc again, puerto rico.
* * *
nah, jaypaw goes to a...regular (?) public school. sighted public school? not sure sorry. he's w his siblings.
he does, however, go to a summer camp for blind/visually impaired kids. he enjoys it a lot!

ok my friends and I cant seem to agree on this so im bringing it to you. who are the dean-coded, cas-coded and sam-coded characters in trc??
oh VERY interesting question. i have discussed this a little with @countryboycasâ but my brain is a little offline today and i think itâs hard to get a 1:1 coding in place in any case, because different aspects of tfw fit different trc characters?? but hereâs my tentative breakdown:
ronan is, largely, dean-coded, on account of: extreme loyalty; idolises his absent, piece of shit father; has a soft, luminous, sanctified (and largely not-real) mother figure; anger issues that manifest in physical outbursts; secretly a softie with a huge weakness for kids; carries a lot of self-loathing; not academically-inclined/high school dropout, but still very clever and great at picking up practical skills (hc: most likely has adhd); will self-sacrifice at the drop of a hat.
however, when it comes to his relationship with declan, then ronan can be sam-coded, in the sense that he is the Rebellious Baby with a Mysterious Power that is super similar to his father (like sam is to john) and that declan, the Dutiful Son, has to protect
which means that declan has his own brand of dean-coding, as in: repressed to all hell; essentially buried his personality so deep under a façade that very few people get to see it; got overburdened with responsibility at an incredibly young age; yet despite doing everything his father asked, he was Not the Favorite
adam, to me, is mostly sam-coded: heâs stubborn, very clever, and academically inclined; he too grew up under an abusive piece of shit father, but instead of idolising him, he plans to leave and never come back by going to a prestigious university; despite being deeply ânot-normalâ he still tries to fit in by pursuing a traditional career (like sam with law studies), so he can build a safe life for himself; presents on the surface like the more rational/even-tempered between him and dean, but actually has mountains of repressed anger as well, and thinks of himself as not good enough/unclean all the time. PLUS!!! psychic powers babey!!
blue is jo-coded because jo is essentially dean, and blue is âthe same impossible stuffâ as ronan, who as established is dean-coded; additionally, blue has a sort of mixed rivalry/reverence for ronan right from the start, and is stated as wanting to impress him. they both fill the âSmol Girlâąïž who can and will kick your ass if you underestimate herâ role (and they both deserved a better narrative)
gansey is bobby-coded on account of: is not adam and ronanâs dad but he still appointed himself as the Parent Figure (iâm SORRY akfdlg thatâs. all i got. iâm not even doing henry and noah because i donât think we know enough about them to properly code them)
oh wait shit i did just compare adam and ronan to sam and dean so real quick--
w*ncesties donât even THINKÂ about interacting itâs about the characters not how they relate to each other đ

Well, in honor of the Rebellion sequel FINALLY being announced, hereâs something I was going to do today anyway! Hereâs the second part of the crew of Walpurgis Nights watch The Rebellion Story, stretching from Madoka arriving at the school to Hitomiâs nightmare!
Note: I originally was going to write this as one big piece and release it all at once, but then I realized what a dumb idea that would be, so itâs going to get released in chunks as theyâre finished.
Note the 2nd: Every time a prolonged conversation takes place, just assume that theyâre pausing the movie to talk.
Reminder:
G=Gretchen
H=Homulilly
Op=Ophelia
Ok=Oktavia
Ca=Candeloro/Mami
Ch=Charlotte
...
G: You know, I canât get over Tavi having legs, or Fee having hair.
Op: It does look good, I gotta say. Mustâve been a bitch to keep it looking so fresh though.
Ch: And probably sets fewer low-hanging branches alight or set off fewer sprinklers.
Op: As far as you know. That style is smokinâ
âŠ
H: Seeing all those boys isâŠweird.
Ch: I know what you mean. I mean, I can picture what they look like, and Iâve seen recreations, but even stillâŠ
G: It is interesting to think about. I mean, here itâs perfectly normal for girls to get into relationships with other girls. But there girls like us would be a minority.
Op: Canât imagine why. Now that Iâm seeing themâŠnot really getting the appeal. They donât even have tits!
Ch: I guess you had to be there.
Ok: Hey, is it true that girls who liked other girls got picked on a lot?
Ca: Well, thatâs an oversimplification of a serious problem, and I certainly never saw it happen. But then, I was a littleâŠsheltered. And yes, in some places of the world, that does unfortunately happen. And worst.
G: Poor girls.
Ch: And guys. It happens to the gay guys too.
Op: I never got the gay thing. I mean, using the word as an insult. Like, why would that even be something to be ashamed of?
Ca: ThatâsâŠa really complicated question, and Iâm not sure Iâm really qualified to explain.
G: Well, I think theyâre just being silly! I donât see how anyone could see anything wrong with this!
=Gretchen leans over to give Homulilly a small kiss on the lips. Homulilly is more than happy to reciprocate=
Op: GAAAAY!
=Homulilly smacks Ophelia upside the head=
Ca: All ofâŠthat aside, I have to say, this is sort of nostalgic.
Ch: Hey, whatâs that supposed to mean?
Ca: Oh, relax. I mean, just this. The school. The girls and the boys. The uniforms. Donât worry, Iâm not going to be struck with an uncontrollable desire for penis.
Op: Though if you do, I know a girl who-
Ca: Thank you, Ophelia. Please donât finish that thought.
âŠ
Op: Ha. Still a rebel, even then.
Ca: You were. You definitely were. Even more than this version. At least this version of you is going to school.
Op: And Taviâs the goody-goody, sneaking offâŠhold up.
Ok: What?
Op: Rewind it a bit.
Ch: Okay
Op: So, does this version of me and OktaviaâŠdo we live together?
Ch: Huh?
H: What?
Op: How would she know about me slacking on my homework after school if she wasnât there? Like, in the same house?
Ca: W-Well, friends visit after school, sometimes to work on homeworkâŠ
Ok: No, Iâm going with Ophelia. We were totally shacking up. I mean, look at us. Look how irritated I am with her. That is love.
Ca: Girls, I hate to burst your bubble, but nobody was actually dating anyone back then.
Op: Oh, come on! Look at us!
Ok: Yeah, I mean the only other explanation isâŠ
=silence=
Op: Is what? What are youâŠOh, my God.
G: Whatâs wrong?
=Ophelia and Oktavia both start to look very uncomfortable=
Op: Candy, tell us the honest truth here: are we sisters?
Ca: What?!
Ch: Oh my God, Iâm not hearing this.
Op: If you hid it so we wouldnât freak out, I understand, but we really need to know-
Ca: No! No, you are not sisters, and you did not live together in our timeline! You knew each other for little over a month when we died, and only really got along for about two weeks!
Op: Oh, thank the flames.
Ok: Whew.
Ca: Seriously, whatâs wrong with you? I already told you your stories.
G: Yeah, and Hitomiâs known Oktavia and me for a very long time! I think sheâd mention it if you two were related.
H: Plus you look nothing alike. At all.
Ok: Okay! Okay! It was a momentary slip of stupid! We panicked! Leave us alone.
H: Would you two have stopped dating if it turned out you were related?
=Ophelia and Oktavia exchange looks=
Op: Probably not.
Ok: Nope.
Ch: Great. Now that weâve established yet again how degenerate you two are, can we please continue the movie?
âŠ
G: Huh?
Ok: Whatâs her deal?
Ca: IâŠkind of remember her? She was a teacher, and I think I had her my first year. But itâs been so long that-
Op: This ladyâs bugging.
Ch: Too many shots in her coffee.
Op: I donât think thatâs alcohol.
Ok: Look at the class. Look at us! Weâre all as confused asâŠwe areâŠhuh.
Ch: Donât think about it too hard.
Op: Okay, seriously! Who allowed this lady around children?
Ca: I can remember her being a little eccentric, but this is on a whole new level.
Ch: Well, as the first few minutes proved, this whole cityâs totally drugged out of its mind.
G: Does she want the world to end?
Ok: You know, Iâm kind of feeling her.
G: Eh?!
Ok: Okay, look! Way back in the day, before I had a reliable gig, I used to sub every now and then for the FIBâs music department, and let me tell you, after a couple days of trying to keep those sand crabs under control, the apocalypse wasnât sounding too bad!
Ch: How bad does her class have to be for her to go that far off the deep end?
Ok: Well, me and Fee are in the class.
=Ophelia snickers=
G: Oh, I saw Hitomi!
H: Fantastic.
Ok: I thought you two were cool now.
H: EhâŠ
Ch: Hey, kids! Itâs time to play, âSpot the important characters!â
Ca: Did our hair really stand out that much? I distinctly remember other kids having bright hair colors!
Ch: Well, if you have a bunch of characters that youâre only animating for one scene, then you gotta skimp on some of the details.
âŠ
G: Oh, there you are, Lilly!
Ca: Okay, this part I remember as being fairly accurate.
H: Huh?
Ca: I mean the bit about you being a transfer student and having been in the hospital for a while.
H: Ah.
=pause=
H: My God, I look stupid.
G: Donât say that! You look cute!
H: Did I really wear my hair like that?
Ca: Well, no. You wore it straight. And I donât remember there being glasses.
âŠ
Ca: This partâŠis different though.
G: Really? How so?
Ca: I didnât know Homulilly before she showed up.
Op: Yeah, you talked about that before. She just sort of appeared out of nowhere one day?
Ca: Yes. And pretty much justâŠaggressively inserted herself into our group. I mean, she wasnât rude about it, butâŠ
H: I was a time-traveler trying to save the only person that had ever cared about me from a terrible fate and had already failed several times. No doubt I wanted to skip the pleasantries.
Ca: Iâm s-sorry, I didnât mean to imply anything negative.
H: No offense taken.
Ok: So basically, you had reloaded your save over and over and was skipping the cutscenes so you could get to work on the part you were having trouble on.
H: That isâŠa remarkably accurate way of putting it. At least I assume that was the reason. I donât know anything other than I was told, and to be quite frank, Iâm glad of it.
Op: Hear fuckinâ hear.
Ok: Cheers. Oh, uh, sorry, Candy.
Ca: Donât worry about it.
âŠ
Ok: Well, Candyâs really talking you up. Guess you were kind of an ass-kicker, Homulilly.
H: No, itâs like the other version of me said. I was probably in a support role.
Ch: What, with the time-stop thing?
H: Yes.
Ok: Support role, my scaly ass! That is like the most OP power ever! I mean, what could I do?
=pause=
Ok: Uh, that wasnât a rhetorical question. Candy, what could I do?
Ca: Oh, uh. In addition to your sword, you could use boost pads to jump and heal very quickly.
Op: So a tank, basically.
Ok: See? Just take and give damage! Basic as hell! Now time-stop, thatâs a power with some class!
Ch: Plus time-travel.
Ok: Yeah, thatâs like the jackpot of unfair.
H: Didnât do me any good. We all died anyway.
Op: Weâre chilling in our expensive, two-story house in a really nice neighborhood watching all this on our expensive big-screen instead of getting our asses beat every night and worrying about homework. Iâd say things worked out.
âŠ
Op: GAAAAAAY!
Ca: Oh, come on. Itâs just hand-holding.
Op: Look at that blush! Look at it!
H: She has a point. By all accounts I was already pretty infatuated with Gretchen.
=Gretchen blushes=
Ca: Fair enough. GAAAAAAY!
=group cracks up=
Op: Though, seriously. Were any of us straight?
Ca: Well, Oktavia did have that crush on that one boy that supposedly started the whole trouble, and I had a couple of crushes of my own.
Ok: Did you not see me earlier in the movie? I at the very least bisexual!
Op: Or Kyoko-sexual. Everyoneâs gay for Kyoko! Even the boys are gay for Kyoko!
G: I donât really know what that means.
Op: It means the boys find me incredibly attractive, but in a gay sort of way.
G: I still donât know what that means!
=Oktavia leans over to whisper something in Gretchenâs ear. Gretchenâs eyes go wide=
G: OooohhhhâŠ
âŠ
Ch: A month? So do the landscape shots just mean a time-skip?
Ok: Okay, we were joking just now, but this is pretty explicitly romantic.
H: As I said, it was at least on my end. Though I donât understand why he has to be there.
Ca: He was always around, unfortunately. Iâm mainly wondering why heâs being so quiet. Or catlike.
H: Why, was he talkative?
Ca: Very.
Op: Huh. Maybe thatâs why we got Cheese. We were just used to the animal companion that wouldnât shut the hell-
=Cheese starts screeching from the other room=
C: Pickinilly! Pickidelly! Picadely whore!
Ch: Great, now youâve set him off.
=Cheese flies into the room and lands on Homulillyâs flower. She tries not to laugh as he prances about before spying the movie playing=
C: Rat bastard! Rat bastard! Rat bastard!
Op: Whereâd he learn that? I didnât teach him that.
C: Rat bastard! Rat bastard!
Ch: Oh, for the love ofâŠHere, Iâll take him.
=Charlotte offers Cheese her arm, and takes him outside=
Op: Iâll say this: the bird might be a pain in the ass sometimes, but he is smart.
Ok: âŠdid anyone else see the freaking dirigibles flying around in the background, or just me?
âŠ.
Op: Shit, those are a lot of airships. Hey, Candy-
Ca: No, those are new also.
Op: Somethingâs seriously off about this timeline, then.
Ch: Who the hell is that?
G: Oh! Itâs Hitomi!
H: Of course it is.
Ch: Huh. Guess she does get more than a cameo.
Op: Jesus Christ, does her entire family all sleep in the same bed? You could fit an entire studio apartment into that thing!
G: Well, we were apparently all pretty well off.
Op: You had a normal-sized twin with a bunch of stuffed animals. Sheâs captaining the HMS Spoiled Rotten in there.
G: Sheâs not spoiled!
Op: Look, there are like three queen-sized beds between the six of us. You could put them all together and they still wouldnât be as big as that monstrosity!
Ch: Isnât she like living with three other girls now?
G: So? That doesnât mean anything. Lots of people have roommates.
H: Theyâre dating.
G: What? What are you talking about? Thatâs silly to just assume-
Ok: Gretch. Câmon. Itâs not a secret.
G: B-But-
Ok: Poly relationships happen all the time.
G: IâŠhow did you find out?
Ok: You do know that I talk to her too, right? And honestly, youâre making more of it than she is.
G: I guess so.
Op: She shouldâve brought that bigass bed with her, then. Gotten some use out of it.
âŠ
H: Whoâs she calling?
Ok: Oh boy.
Op: Well, well, well! Violin-boy!
Ok: Fantastic. Hey! I sold my soul for you! Hope it was worth it!
Ch: Er, you okay?
Ok: Yeah, Iâm fine. I am pretty curious though.
Op: Oh! Stood the fuck up!
Ch: Wow, he just shot his own rich girlfriend down to play with his stringy stick!
Ok: Violins are way more than just stringy sticks! But yeah, he did shoot her right down, didnât he? Starting to think I dodged a bullet.
H: You literally died.
Ok: I know what I said.
Op: I guess Hitomi dodged the same bullet. Traded in one deadbeat for three smokinâ hot girlfriends. Canât see how thatâs not a win!
G: Uh, her family? Whom she still remembers?
Op: ErâŠyeah. Thatâs a good point.
âŠ
Op: Oh, she mad.
Ca: Teenage relationships are just like that sometimes. You feel all these big emotions and-Huh.
Ch: And you throw up yarn all over your room? Whatâs going on here?
Ok: Weâre back on that weird shit again, arenât we?
Op: Does she not notice any of this?
Ok: She just got shot down by her own boyfriend. Cut her some slack.
Op: Did the bed justâŠOkay, it ate her. It ate her and threw up even more yarn.
Ca: This is all getting veryâŠwitch-like.
G: I thought only Puella Magi could become witches.
Ca: So did I. But clearly my knowledge is very obsolete.
Op: Goddamn, Homulilly! You butterfly-effected the universe something crazy!
H: How is this my fault?
Ch: Oh, thereâs another freaky teddy-bear. At least we know how theyâre made.
Ok: Teenaged angst?
Ch: Most terrifying force known to mankind.

Is there any symbolism behind the bird scientific names tags representing Silent Hill characters? Like, did you pick them for any particular reasons? đ
Oh man, well, I guess I never went into detail about them anywhere. They definitely were picked for a reason but the reason is related to a currently-unwritten fanfic and literally who knows when thatâs going to happen (Gravity needs to get finished first and who knows when thatâs going to happen :â]), so I might as well try and do it now.
When I was in college I started coming up with concepts and symbolism for a fic project and because Iâm obsessed with birds all of it involved birds and the title of the fic was appropriately âFour and Twenty Blackbirdsâ, with the âfourâ specifically referring to Harry, James, Heather, and Henry (because they were the main characters). Each of them had a different âblackbirdâ species representing them.Â
So when I decided to make separate aesthetic/inspo tags for individual characters (I already have a #silent feels tag for general SH inspiration, but I am crazy and it was NOT CONVOLUTED ENOUGH FOR ME), I decided to use the scientific bird names since it was conveniently already cemented in my brain. THIS IS GOING TO BE VERY, VERY LONG SO IâM PUTTING IT UNDER A READMORE. Click for pretentious Silent Hill fan analysis.
HARRY MASON | CORVUS BRACHYRYNCHOS (American Crow)
Harry Mason is the ââgenericââ all-American protagonist who rises to a heroic status pretty much out of sheer determination and a commitment to his loved one. Heâs not an unusual person, in fact heâs deceptively normal-- so the American crow felt right for him since theyâre so common. You see them so often you donât even think about them, but theyâre smart, resourceful, and resilient survivors (something that especially comes into play with Harry post-SH1 when heâs eluding the Order). Harry is underestimated because of his normalcy but heâs capable of incredible things.
Also crows (and other corvids) have deep, almost humanlike family bonds between parents and offspring. Theyâll maintain relationships even after the babies grow up and become fully self-sufficient, with the adult children regularly visiting their parents and socializing or helping to take care of younger siblings.
In the context of the fic Harryâs symbolic/prophetic connection to such a common âpestâ species is sort of a derogatory assignment on the part of the Order/the town, as heâs seen as a heretic troublemaker (CULTS HATE HIM!! LOCAL MAN STEALS MESSIAH AND THWARTS FATE WITH ONE COOL TRICK!)
JAMES SUNDERLAND | CORVUS CORAX (Common Raven)
Ravens are like the most symbolic corvid, every gothic poet/novelist/artist and their grandma used them to represent death, grief and malaise, and Jamesâs story is nothing if not filled with all three of those things. I mean, come on: Â Â âBy that Heaven that bends above usâby that God we both adoreâ Â Â Tell this soul with sorrow laden if, within the distant Aidenn, Â Â It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenoreâ Clasp a rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore.â Â Â Â Â Â Â Quoth the Raven, âNevermore.â -Edgar Allen Poe, u know where itâs from.
Also in college, I got very interested in the myth âRaven Steals the Sunâ, which has a number of different variations (itâs a story shared across multiple First Nations peoples of the Pacific Northwest and Alaska, thereâs no one clear origin-- you can read about a couple of versions here!) but most involve the titular Raven delivering the Sun to the world after stealing or freeing it from a dark place where it was kept. Depending on the version, Raven's motives can either be purely selfish or more benevolent, and sometimes starts the story as a pure white bird who is stained black with soot in the act of taking the Sun. The duality of Ravenâs intentions as well as the theme of light/warmth being hidden in darkness until itâs brought out felt fitting for a character whose motivations are complex and left a little ambiguous in canon (James grapples with whether his own act was purely selfish or one of love/mercy) AND someone who is naturally warm and caring but slipped behind a cold, dark wall of depression and self-isolation. The theme of being permanently marked/transformed by an act, whether for good or for bad, felt fitting too.
(Obligatory Disclaimer That My (Very White) Personal Interpretation Should Not Remotely Be Considered An Authentic Take On The Myth And Is Not Intended To Be Appropriation. For fic purposes the story would only have come up as an interesting symbolic parallel/running motif among many others, not a Literal Connection. James is a clueless white dude and Silent Hill doesnât even take place on the west coast.)
âBUT WAIT! Doesnât stealing the sun from a malevolent party and freeing it sound sort of like Harry rescuing Alessa/Cheryl/Heather??â Yes, this was going to be a source of in-character confusion and a surprise twist when it turns out they got their birds mixed up. Blah blah nothing is as it seems and destiny is mutable.
One time while I was walking on a foggy beach I got followed around by an enormous raven who was just sort of waddle-hopping after me looking forlorn and scruffy and the experience stuck with me and now all these years later my enormous galaxy brain is just like âThat was Big James Energyâ.
Wow that was long, Iâm sorry.
HENRY TOWNSHEND | CORVUS FRUGILEGUS (Rook)
The most obvious symbolism is probably the chess piece with the same name-- that felt fitting for Henry since heâs probably the protagonist who has to do the most strategizing. Between his limited inventory and his progressively-more-cursed apartment and escorting Eileen and his five billion trips across multiple fractured Otherworlds, my poor guy has a lot to mentally keep track of. In the fic, he was going to wind up being the one to keep track of all the weird complicated bullshit items and rituals they had to complete to get through the Otherworld.
The rook chess piece also resembles a castle, and unlike the other protagonists whose stories progress in a linear fashion, Henry operates from/returns to his home base shitty cursed apartment.
BUT ONTO THE BIRD the rook is a corvid like the crow and the raven, and shares their pest/death omen status in popular culture. Just appropriate for SH protags in general since they keep getting in the way of the cultâs business and also misfortune follows them.
In the SH3 Crematorium Puzzle (Iâll talk more about that in Heatherâs section), there is a poem:   "The black Rook is the praying sort   Who hears the gods in the skies   His whispered petitions go on without end   And glassy and dim are his eyes" Obviously this does NOT describe Henry as a person, but it IS eerily reminiscent of the title that was thrust upon him: Receiver. Maybe if Walterâs plans had succeeded, this is how Henry would have ended up.
There is also an old belief that if rooks abandon an established ârookeryâ (place where they regularly roost), itâs a sign of calamity to follow. If Henry the Certified Homebody (tm) bursts out of the apartment complex and goes staggering down the street, you should get out of that apartment complex.
HEATHER MASON | AGELAIUS PHOENICEUS (Red-Winged Blackbird)
Oh boy this oneâs probably the weirdest but here we go.
The first obvious thing is that unlike the other three, the red-winged blackbird is not actually a corvid (itâs from the Icteridae family, not the Corvidae family). In-universe, this was supposed to represent Heather being inherently different from the rest (like... she basically is an iteration of the Silent Hill deity), even if she seems to be a normal human. Harryâs act of stealing her from the Order and changing her appearance/name to hide her was going to be depicted as âdousing Her in black ink, but [the ink] not able to fully conceal Her radianceâ. The red and gold shoulders of the blackbird visually symbolize her âââtrue natureâââ peeking out.
I also associate her specifically with the MALE red-winged blackbird (the female looks completely different, hooray sexual dimorphism) because gender is a fuck and Heather understandably has some really intense and complicated issues with womanhood/femininity. One of my favorite aspects of her as a character is how she blurs the line between masculine and feminine, especially since sheâs been through so much... extremely gendered violence, to put it lightly. Heather Mason says FUCK YOUR GENDER BINARY.
As a fun side-note, Heather is also represented (or appears to be, ymmv) by a bird in canon! The SH3 Crematorium puzzle (on hard mode) features a series of poems each about birds, and each one represents a character if you squint. Heather seems to be referenced in this one:   "The Wren, with pure heart as yet unrefined   Makes us laugh with his feeble lip-smacking   But still we all know he shall never grow old   And he knows not how much he is lacking." Heatherâs role as a brash, foolhardy youth who talks tough to cope is pretty blatantly summed up in there, as is the fact that sheâs... functionally immortal and keeps fucking reincarnating. The wren, a plucky little bird, is perfect for her. The part of the main riddle that references the wren is also... ominously on the nose, given Heatherâs backstory:   "Burn the one who knows no death   Pure, adored by those above   No prayers within, just simple love.â
YET ANOTHER CREMATORIUM POEM could be construed as representing the townâs God (or the spiritual force of the land, w/e), damaged/corrupted/turned malevolent by All The Bullshit:   "The Kite, hot, crazy, and panting mad   Sweet shackles that tease and excite   Death itself would drive him wild   Red blood that turns milky white" Heather is a pure-hearted protagonist in one sense, but thereâs plenty of not-so-subtle hints to a bloodlust and desire for violence just waiting to break free (ESPECIALLY when Heather does certain things that could be considered taking on the role of God). So to me the Kite is what happens when Heather gets sick of being nice and decides to go apeshit.
âBUT WAIT what does this have to do with the red-winged blackbird?â The inherent trinity of Heatherâs character (Alessa/Cheryl/Heather, the Mother of God/Daughter of God/God Herself) deserves a bird trinity too. IâM GREEDY, I WANT *ALL* THE BIRD METAPHORS!
Red-winged blackbirds are bold little shits who will straight up harass birds of prey. Kind of like Heather does to God.
The fact that âphoeniceusâ was part of the scientific name was a VERY delightful coincidence-- but Iâm not complaining about how satisfying I found it that my Bird Choice (tm) inadvertently connects her to the concept of the phoenix, poster child of pyrogenesis.
That was even longer than Jamesâ, Iâm so sorry.
SO THATâS THE META BEHIND THOSE CHOICES FOR THE FOUR MAIN CHARACTERS. If youâre still interested after all that BS, I can write up another (probably much shorter) post for the other characters. Thanks for the ask!

hi!!! Iâm a puertorriqueño/nicaragĂŒense enby looking into resources for learning bruja stuff, any good place you know to start?
Iâve gotten a couple of asks about this lately, and iâm so happy to know there are more latinos finding their way to the practice, tumblrâs brujeria tag often gives the impression that theres so little of us out there reclaiming our practices but getting asks like these brings me a lot of faith that thats not true :) first and foremost:
GETTING INTO BRUJERIA IS HARD.
it really is. baby brujos like us know that better than anyone- getting started, is often the hardest part of doing anything, and its no different with brujeria. it can feel so overwhelming and feeling lost is natural. from my experience, although i am still a newbie ive been able to find a lot of information out there, here are the best places to find info, sorted by priority:
FAMILY! a little self explanatory, but brujeria at its best is truly is an inherited, familial practice. If you can, before delving into internet resources, definitely connect w your family if youâre able to and ask them for guidance and about their experiences!
Your family is always the best resource over anything you can find online; theres so much misinformation out there or information not relevant to your region and if someone in your family already has established practices, always trust them first
Do some thinking back to all your cultural traditions, quirks, stories, and superstitions that youâve learned from your family across time and never thought too much about- and rediscover them under a new light
KEEP IN MIND: brujeria is NOT a singular , concrete practice w concrete rules in itself, the term blankets a lot of traditions across latam, the caribbean, mexico, but imo its always best to stick with brujeria related to your heritage and where your connection is.
this can be hard for people (like me!) with huge family taboos toward brujeria that make it unsafe to ask around about, and/or limitations in family connections (also like me unfortunately). I personally can really only get the tidbits and stories that my family accidentally slips out when I occasionally see them. i try to write them down as much as possible, but the info i can get is limited... and thats where the following comes in.
ONLINE COMMUNITIES. i.e, youtube, tumblr, instagram brujx communities. notice I havenât said âinternetâ in general- the reason why i trust community based social media more than random individual websites you find on google is because, in the case of brujeria and honestly any non-european craft, youâre often gonna find a LOT of white people writing blogs, books, etc about their âspiritual experiencesâ in latam countries and wrongly/incorrectly taking ATR or indigenous traditions (like with smudging). I know, with social media, although those same white people are also on insta and tumblr, itâs a LOT easier to see the face behind the accounts and differentiate who to trust, whoâs legit and has real experience to share, rather than a nameless, faceless, website that is actually some colonizer sharing colonized ideas who thinks theyre on a spiritual journey taking traditions all willy nilly. And the fact that in social media, its much easier to find a lot of good brujas at once bc they tend to follow each other lmao.what ive personally done to find information tho is essentially SCOUR tumblrs, insta accs, and watching tons of youtube videos for posts, accounts, videos, etc, and narrowing down good info from there through , namely:
CHECKING WHO YOUR SOURCE IS!!!
ASKING YOURSELF FROM WHAT EXPERIENCE THEYRE SPEAKING FROM
ALWAYS TAKING EVERYTHING WITH A GRAIN OF SALT
AND STICKING TO INFO FROM CULTURES OPEN AND RELEVANT TO ME.
again, brujerĂa is different depending on where your family is from in latam, and if you have an established connection to indigenous and/or black roots, so itâs useful to use keywords relating to that when searching (like if ur black, you can look into ATRs(african traditional religions) which tend to mix deeply with brujeria, if ur indigenous, finding other people from your tribe is great, and if youre not pursuing your already learned traditions you can think about connecting to them more deeply(altho indigenous traditions are their own thing, sometimes they do mix with brujeria too), and apart from familial roots, if ur catholic/christian and/or want to explore it, saint work/catholic brujeria might be a good fit for you!)Â Â
tumblr: there are a couple of fantastic brujxs on this site with great blogs and resources who have sadly left the site, but i still go through their posts heavily for spells, rituals, scraps of info! etting started w brujerĂa is hard bc thereâs really not that much info out there right now, but i compile as many good brujeria posts i find on my acc.
@brujeria-n-bongs great for catholic brujeria, now at @Upliftherbs on instagram
@brujeria-lost @barberwitch @reina-morada @highbrujita
@naomi121406 is by far the most active and informative tumblr resource ive found, shes an afro-indigenous diaguita curandera from argentina so shes also really helpful if ATRs are in your path!
Im not black myself and dont follow ATRs so i donât really know many good blogs for afrolatine brujxs out there but if anyone would like to tag some in the replies thatd be awesome!
instagram: Ive found that instagram #brujeria tags has a pretty healthy active stream of posts. Youâre gonna have to sift through a lot of them to get to the good stuff though- imo a lot of hispanics use the brujerĂa tag not to mean âlatine brujerĂaâ but just the spanish word for witchcraft, so a lot of white hispanics will put wicca/neo witchcraft in the tag. imo thatâs really not something iâm personally interested in bc itâs not true to brujeriaâs traditional nature, is very white/eruropean , and that wicca shit basically just got here. its a relatively a recent thingđ so i try to stick to bruja accounts that arenât influenced by that.
youtube: The youtube brujerĂa tag is hit or miss? and again, contains a lot of wicca. But there are some good practitioners on there like The Mexican Witch! You just gonna look around, and dont be afraid to click on videos by really really small youtubers; they often are the ones with the most informative and legit things to say!
Everyoneâs path as a bruja/o/x (sjdf trying to be inclusive w gendered language is difficult) is different but here are some topics i think are great to look into as a beginner!
ancestors: start at the bottom and figure out who they are, where theyre from, and set up an altar. itâll help you a lot with figuring out your identity and path as a bruja later on.
setting up a grimoire
divination: tarot is actually what got me into brujeria at first! tarot isnt strictly traditional and is european in itself but its a wonderful tool for connecting to dieties, saints, etc as well as super fun and helps a lot with introspection
ritual abrecaminos, aka road opening spells!
amarres (love spells... proceed with caution)
limpias, mal de ojo
saint work: even if youâre not catholic (im ex catholic), a growing number of us (especially lgbt latines like @/upliftherbs on instagram) are starting to take back and decolonize our view of saints like La Virgen Maria and removing her from the rigid european/colonized interpretation thats been forced into us
candle spells in general (i fucking love candles tbh, cheap, easy, fun, and WORKS)
spiritual colognes, how to cleanse
finally, here are some helpful posts yall should definitely read and think about moving forward!
about using tumblr as a resource
about looking into brujeria as a part-white part latine
bruja psa + about reclaiming lost indiginety
honestly naomiâs entire brujeria tag is great and super informative for beginners and basically holds answers for almost anything at this point
hope this post helps yall out!
EDIT: oh lord now that this is posted the outline format i tried to use is all kinds of fucked up please dont mind the odd numbering lmfao tumbr hates organized formats

blood and wine rewrite au basic layout
i already posted something like this before but i cant find the post so im just rewriting all of this from the top of my head
everyoneâs repurposed roles:
geralt - heâs still a witcher. heâs geralt of rivia. obviously. i donât have time or interest to think about how to rewrite the entire witcher 3 game to be lore-friendly, but i assume there would be less triss and more dandelion involved in it. for this letâs just take him as geralt having done everything in tw3 but with the personality of geralt from the books because geralt from the games doesnât have much of a strong personality good for writing or thinking about.
regis - a bitch. nah jk. heâs same regis but just what he was like 100 years ago when he got his head cut off. heâs less spiralling-into-doom than he was then, and is less desperate and hopeless overall, but is slowly getting there once again. he doesnât remember anything about learning from his mistakes and becoming a good person, because this regis didnât get any of that. to this regis, itâs like no time has passed at all since he died, and heâs ready to start partying again without any thought of the consequences. heâs moved to toussaint because everyoneâs already tipsy there and the north is plagued by war so itâs not a really great source to be drinking from (like if there was a sewage leak near the vineyard you sourced your wine from). he doesnât remember anything about maturing up or about becoming a surgeon or about the hansa, so that sucks.
dettlaff - not a fucking maniac. actually a character geralt will likely spend a good amount of time talking to. total character overhaul because he does not have a personality in the actual DLC. he arrived in toussaint because he had heard that regis had returned and wanted to fix things wih him, he had previously left him.
syanna - not a fucking dumbass, yet still naive in her own way due to being blinded with the promise of power. in this, she is planning to stage a coup on the duchy (because she is the older sister, so it IS her right by law) and she supports regisâ slow dive again into uncontrollable insanity because it helps her prop up rumors that her sisterâs reign is ineffective against real threats and is cursed. but this alliance does not go as she planned...
orianna -Â in this, she is the owner of a gladiatorial school (instead of an orphanage), and is still like in canon a wealthy and influential individual of beauclair, yet reclusive from human society. she is regisâ best friend and goads him on, because she never fixed her own issues with alcoholism and now is elated to have him back and forgetting that they had disagreements which drove them apart in the first place. theyâre best friends (NO romance) and itâs just good to see how insanely different orianna and geralt are because theyâve both been regisâ close friends at different points in time.
the purpose of this:
fix regisâ relationships with the vampires. he slowly drove all of his good friends away by going off the deep end and many are likely wondering whatever happened to him. but books regis would never consider partying like that again, so we bring the party regis back and then slowly de-escalate him into normal books regis again, and we finally get closure with him and his old friends.
cool dramatic stereotypical vampire shit. iâm talking about a final battle or conversation in a giant dark castle with large open windows and billowing drapery.
regisâs hairstyle
give syanna actual agency as a character and give her motivations that extend beyond pure revenge (although they are related to revenge) and make her more unique so she is not just a ripoff of renfri.Â
demonstrate anna henrietta and geraltâs relationship as it was in the books. he was genuinely intimidated by her and i interpret him as being jealous of her relationship with dandelion, so he in practice was quite withdrawn around her as she was her overemotional and embellished self
give dettlaff an actual character, holy shit. i hate how sorely underdeveloped he is in the game. i understand why because itâs not meant to be writing, itâs meant to be a video game, but come on. i hate having the vampire with the cool character design be the ultimate villain of the whole narrative. in this, heâs someone geralt can talk to and sees himself in. heâs emotionally mature and doesnât mix with the other vampires. since we already know what regis is like, we donât have to sit through dettlaff making excuses for him and trying to describe what his character is like. we also get a better view of regisâ past through dettlaffâs lense.Â
give orianna an actual character, holy shit. i hate how they didnât even try with her and just used her as a âsurprise, she is quite evil!â gimmick. have her actually have a larder for blood that is lore-friendly yet still jumps out at the audience as morally wrong. give her more personality and development.
examine regisâ backstory without actually getting into every single year of those 4 centuries. we can examine how it started good, turned bad, went worse... thereâs a lot of loss involved and i think this would be nice to process it.
roughly what happens (under cut because if i ever do write this fic out, this is spoilers, literally the synopsis of the whole thing):
anna henrietta sends envoys to geralt. they establish that the duchess has no conflict with geralt and that her conflict was with dandelion, only. she has requested his help because he effectively dealt with many monsters while he was in beauclair and established a trustworthy reputation (also, heâs famous, and toussaintoirs are superficial). instead of the beast of beauclair killing particular victims, itâs the countryside which has been plagued by vicious attacks of the devil knows what.
geralt arrives and examines the scenes of the attacks. the sincere majority of the victims are alive, so he speaks to them. they remember nothing, but woke up with their village fucking absolutely trashed and with vomit everywhere. they all have wounds on their necks. geralt thinks he knows whatâs up, but is reluctant to deal with it because of his memories of regis, who he misses
damien de la tour is assigned to geralt as a sort of backup. they argue and geralt manages to get him to stay put in beauclair while he rides to a village they believe will be attacked next. itâs not even a full moon so the vampires donât even come out in their bat form (disappointing) but instead just mesmerize their way in in humanoid form. dettlaff sneaks up on geralt who is (ahem) staking out the situation, and is like hey dont kill regis hes not evil hes just misguided!! and geralt is like REGIS? EMIEL REGIS? THTS WHOâS LEADING THEM? i ..... i know him.... and dettlaffâs like what the fuck how... then they get caught and regis is like oh hey dettlaff whoâs this guy and geralt feels very left out :( and also sad bc regis doesnt remember shit and geralt even lists the hansa members by name and regis is still like O_O ok yeah im just going to hypnotize you to get lost ok goodbye! but dettlaff prevents him from doing this and they both get thrown out of the party.
after the party geralt is a mess and is like wtf so hes back and what... how... huh... and dettlaff doesnt know how he returned or why he returned either but they compare geraltâs knowledge of how regis died with dettlaffâs knowledge of how regeneration works and they figure out that regis just regenerated from his past body and thatâs why he doesnât have any of his memories from when he turned good.
then they eavesdrop a little more and find out that syanna has been talking to regis and making deals with him (its... not really like she thinks, regis really hasnt been doing anything he doesnt want to. shes just like âhey can you attack this village hereâ and regis is like yeah i was gonna host a party there tomorrow night ...) so they are like who the fuck is this woman and track her down to her base of operations, and then they find out that THEY got followed by damien de la tour, who identifies her as sylvia anna. geralt is a little miffed on behalf of dandelion that damien seems to be so close to anna henrietta but i digress.
geralt reports his findings to the duchess but does NOT mention regis because the duchess knows who regis is. then we get the same vampire talk from canon b&w where the duchess and damien are sorely misinformed on every single thing ever.
geralt is defeated and has no idea on how to fix this and hes looking hard into a mirror by candlelight and then decides to go to bed so he turns around and regis is right behind him like hey. cue âholy shit what the fuckâ moment and freaking out. regis explains himself and says that he doesnt remember him but the fact that he gave so many specifics weirded him out and he kind of wants to know more out of curiosity. also he wants to talk to dettlaff but feels too bad about how he argued with him like 3 centuries ago that he cant just ask him directly.
so they talk and geralt is all :(( and regis is like ok well. i kinda want to get these memories back because they sound pretty significant and also im pretty miserable. but also im not going to stop partying bc its the only thing that makes me feel alive rn. so long!
geralt and dettlaff talk to orianna and she dislikes them both but still talks to them and then regis materializes and also begins bothering them and its quite civil but this scene just serves to demonstrate how annoying they are as friends lol
thereâs scenes where you can either save damien / syanna from being unalived by the vampiresâ / regisâ hand, only if you let syanna die will the duchess be mad and accuse you of being heartless like dandelion is and then geralt and the duchess actually get into an argument bc of that comment but geralt ofc loses bc hes scared of her lol
no matter what you get regis his memories back but your decisions to either continue helping him or not is what makes him change or not. even after he gets his memories back (or because he gets his memories back?) he decides to raze beauclair bc hes just so fucking miserable and geralt has to talk him down, if you are harsh and not understanding and shame him etc then he doesnt change, if you condemn his actions but still offer your support then he does.
if you offer your support > geralt talks about the hansa like For Ever and regis then adds in everything and yay regis is back to normal. theres like a wholesome montage of geralt being like âjust TRY to sew up a wound i promise you you will be good at itâ and regis does and hes splendid at it. regis and dettlaff finally make up and are bros once again. we help orianna with her issues and she realizes stuff but is still going to have a drink once in a while. if syanna is alive she doesnt hate on any of this but just decides to make up with the duchess and then become captain of the guard (damien gets fired for being a dumbass).
if you do not offer your support > regis goes to cry in a delapidated creepy old castle and you have an epic fight (geralt is backed up by dettlaff) and he turns into a bat and geralt almost dies, they manage to decapitate regis again and put him in the ground and set a timer for 50 years
if you redeem regis then thereâs an ending scene where the duchess is like âoh regis i didnt know you were in townâ and hes just like <:) ahaha... yeah...
cue crying about milva/cahir/angouleme For Ever. maybe link this with the fic where geralt and regis bring them all back as ghosts/real ppl and then they have to deal with those consequences

a/n: not me crying at 2am about an Oikawa edit, that was my twin sister not me at all...this is totally self indulgent so uhm...yeah. Hope you enjoy it tho!!
Oikawa Tooru x fReader
Summary: in which you are tired of hearing how is never enough for Oikawa Tooru.Â
Genre: angst, fluffy end tho, established relationshipÂ
Now playing âłÂ King by Lauren Aquilina ; Next to me by Imagine Dragons
Oikawa doesnât have a throne, but heâll proudly wear the title you gave him, and heâll do his best the be worthy of the crown that comes with it.Â
â Please reblog if you like it! â

Goodbye to Halos - How Fenic (The Main Protagonist) is Fenic (The Lost Princess)
Ok yâall buckle up because itâs about to be a wild ride.
FIRST OFF: READ GOODBYE TO HALOS. It has incredibly good writing and art and characterization!!! Fenic, the main protag, is a trans lesbian!! The other protags include (but are not limited to) a genderqueer gay lion and a poly wlw! Iâll post a link in the notes so this post shows up in tags, but a search of âGoodbye to Halosâ will get you there in the first link!
Also cred to @demi-virgoâ for encouraging me to make this ;w;
Ok so I donât know how to format this so letâs just start from the first hint and go from there.
And one more important note: Current Fenic will be referred to as just Fenic, and her mom will be referred to as The Lost Princess.
HINT ONE: THE MAAVE
So maaveâs are, as a refresher, the mark under a Shadeâs eye. They are a unifying trait of the shades (Along with horns and magic, but less so as they arenât retained in children of Shades and Wildren, but I digress). But there are also "no two alike in form and colorâ, as Enae put it.
Which is WEIRD becauseÂ
Yeah. Impossible. UNLESS... THE LOST PRINCESS AND FENIC ARE THE SAME PERSON! And not in an amnesia kinda way, but in a restarting life kinda way. But weâll get to that.Â
Addendum:Â
The wording of âyou are very, very closely related to The Lost Princessâ is weird when Enae already knows that Fenic is the lost princessâs daughter. Also the rest of this page speaks for itself I think. âLost princess was immortalâ, âThereâs no other Fenicsâ (especially Fenics with that maave and other traits like red hair). This establishes that Fenic and the Lost Princess look similar, if not alike/identical. This will be essential in hint three.
Continued under the cut because I got a loooooottttt more ;3
HINT TWO: GODâS BLESSING
So as the fight continues, God Herself literally steps in. Well, an avatar of Herâs, later named a Godeye.
God intercepted the knife from hitting Fenic. I wonât post the entire scene here, but basically God shoots the knife at Enae, wounding her BAD. But as God goes to send another attack, Fenic comes in and stands between the two. And then She freaks out????
Now maybe God isnât a god, but God is just Her name? Also interesting is how She is the only one to use lower case, and only when She says âIâ. But thatâs another post, as I digress...
God Herself is asking forgiveness from Fenic? After Fenic asked (with her actionsâ for God not to attack Enae? Enae later talks about this in the following chapter:
âAnd that girl... blessed by God, sheâs the only other one who can sway Her heart. Fenic...â
And who else was blessed by God? The Lost Princess. Before this, Fenic has had no reason to be blessed by god besides being related to the (immortal, may i remind you) lost princess who "diedâ before Fenic can remember.Â
(Also another digression... the only other one? Who is the one Fenic is the âother oneâ off of? Maybe The Dead Princess? Maybe the old empress? Both are dead, but itâs phrased that sheâs one of two, and coming off this theory, perhaps she and The Dead Princess pair up to be the two that can sway Godâs heart.)
HINT THREE: ASHER AND TAHMONAI
So their meeting has a ton of different sentences that lead towards this theory, so Iâm just going to group them all here. (Note: Enae is narrating and Asher and Tahmonai are talking about The Lost Princess. Tahmonai morphed to The Lost Princess to ask if Asher has seen her.)
âThe person youâre looking for... she doesnât exist anymoreâ and âThat, too was-- somehow -- not trueâ and â[The Lost Princess] is really immortal tooâ... these statements donât have a lot of intersections in the venn diagram of where they can all be true. The only fact that I can think of that does make them true is that Fenic is the rebirth of The Lost Princess. Continuing onto the next page...
Thereâs a lot to break down here:
âShe... was a dear friend of mine.â Meaning The Lost Princess was a friend, not a romantic interest with whom he would have a child with.
âSomeone I was lucky enough to know all my life, even if she only knew me for a fraction of herâs.â Implying that The Lost Princess was MUCH older than Asher. Immortality, anyone?
âBut there are... circumstances now. Nothing will come of this, Tahmonai.â If this theory is true, then those circumstances are that The Lost Princess doesnât have her memories, she restarted her life. She isnât the same person. It clicks.
âStay in my office. Iâll make arrangements.â Implying he is going to see The Lost Princess to arrange a sort of meeting. But instead he goes to Fenic to send her through the portal. Funny writing there, donât you think?
After Asher sends Fenic through the portal...
âDid I do the right thing, old friend...?â The name âold friendâ is being used here to denote heâs talking about The Lost Princess. Perhaps where she/her reborn self just went through the portal?
âI have to believe this is what you wanted.â (The word âwantedâ can be seen if you zoom in close, at least at full resolution). Keyword: âthisâ. Not âthatâ. âThisâ means something that is near, something that was just there. Why would he use âthisâ for something from someone who is dead? No, what if she, or a version of herself, was just there? And what exactly she, The Lost Princess, wanted? Weâll get to that in hint five.
TO THE NEXT PAGE!
PROBABLY THE HEAVIEST PAGE OF THEM ALL
âI already told you the person youâre looking for doesnât exist anymore.â Not died, âdoesnât exist anymore.â Specific choice of words!
âNot in a way thatâs useful to you.â As in she no longer has her memories, perhaps? That sheâs currently a 15 year old?Â
âAnd before she left, she told me...â Before she LEFT. Not died! LEFT!
âThat she didnât want her past to haunt her anymore.â THIS WILL BE IMPORTANT IN HINT FIVE.
âShe started over.â BAM. PROBABLY THE CORNERSTONE OF THIS THEORY. Combine these three words with the rest of the theory, and you get the conclusion that âstarting overâ means something along the lines of reincarnation. But Iâll get to the reincarnation bit later.Â
SO THATS ALL UP TO WHERE THE COMIC IS RIGHT NOW! BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN WE REREAD?
HINT FOUR: FENIC AS A NAME
Now this one is a little shorter but in the prologue we see Fenic name herself for the first time.
After being called a lady, she sorta panics as, like, whatâs she gonna do, give her a boyâs name when sheâs a girl and just been called that? And her first instinct is to go with her motherâs name. Like, sure, maybe itâs because she thinkâs âgirlâs name goâ and the girl/woman/female closest to her is her mom. But I like to think itâs an instinct to keep the same name. It could be read either way, but I feel like it was worth mentioning.Â
ALONG WITH A BONUS THEORY. The Lost Princess is trans. Iâve been thinking about how The Lost Princess would restart, and seeing how the maave is the same, the body is likely the same as well, implying a restart like that of a phoenix. Sorta. Meaning that the AGAB is the same. Maybe Asher didnât know if restarting life would retain trans-ness or w/e OR he didnât know The Lost Princess was trans. Either way he went with AGAB, clearly. I like to think that The Lost Princess spent a lot of time thinking about her name so itâs really ingrained in her so that itâs an instinct to be called Fenic :]
HINT FIVE: WHY?
So. That mystery chapter huh? Hereâs a proposal- who we see is The Lost Princess.
Think about it, the person we see doesnât have horns or some sort of tail or animal ears, eliminating someone who is purely Shade or Wildren. This leaves Fenic, The Dead Princess, or The Lost Princess, all born of both species. The hair doesnât match The Dead Princessâs hair, so that eliminates her.Â
This leaves the Fenics, whose hair DO match, assuming The Lost Princess and Fenic have the same hair texture, which in the frame of what has been discussed, it does.Â
NOW THIS PAGE
Feels like a reason to be reborn to me.
Granted, this chapter, LITERALLY TITLEDÂ âpremonitionâ and the names at the beginning could EASILY be shortened for Clairissa and Enae, who wouldâve been only babies or unborn when The Lost Princess was around. This is VERY likely in the future, with Fenic. But I only realized this after I started referring to it earlier in the post, so no going back.Â
But maybe itâs salvageable. Maybe Fenic is having the same thoughts as The Lost Princess. The Lost Princess, as stated in hint three, didnât want the past to haunt her anymore. So she chose to forget in a new life, reborn.Â
Maybe Fenic is thinking about following in her motherâs footsteps.
This premonition chapter, along with the whole other conspiracy board of âWhatâs up with Salin (The Dead Princess) and Tahmonai?â, have me very concerned for the future.Â
Afterword
Thank you so much for getting this far ;w; I hope and pray that I made literally any sense. As I was collecting pages to put in here, I noticed that this is quite a common theory if the comment section of the pages is anything to go by. I thought so too before all this, so I didnât really want to put the effort into a post, but Virgo encouraged me to make it anyway soooooÂ
Either way, this can still work as a collection of evidence, and an archive on our, or at least my, thoughts on âWhatâs up with the Fenicsâ question! Hopefully later down the line we can look at this and be like, âcalled it!â or, âhoney, youâve got a big storm coming.âÂ
I could go on about the implications of this theory, but thatâs another post of this length tbhhhhhhhhh and also its uh. 12am LOL.
Please reblog this to spread the theory! Even if itâs common, spread it to convince people to read gth? :pleading: I spent like. 2-3 hours on this to try to get my wording right and cohesive, which is really hard for me as Iâm very much more an artist than a writer haaaaaaaaa
Thank you so much for reading again! Good morning, good afternoon, good night <3
